First Team

Ebony Bailey, Seton Academy

Position: Guard

Year: Sophomore

Height: 5-10

Stats: 17.4 ppg, 4/5 rpg

Notable: Led the Sting to the GCAC White title and to the Class 1A DeKalb Supersectional. She was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association's Class 1A/2A honorable mention all-state team.

Schenia Battle

Position: Forward

Height: 5-7

Stats: 12.8 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 3.2 spg

Notable: The Alabama-Birmingham signee was a team leader, especially when needed early in the season. She was an all-South Suburban Blue pick. She had 21 points in the win over then-Class 3A. No. 1 Hillcrest and 20 in a win over rival T.F. South.

 

Tyler Brown-Henderson, St. Francis de Sales

Position: Guard/Forward

Year: Junior

Height: 5-10

Stats: 15.6 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 4.3 apg, 2.1 spg

Notable: She did it all for the Pioneers in leading them to the Class 2A Chicago Christian Sectional final. She was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association's Class 1A/2A honorable mention all-state team as well as a GCAC White first-team pick. She made the all-tournament teams at the CICS Longwood Thanksgiving and Ottawa Christmas tournaments.

Bria Gaines, Bloom Twp.

Position: Forward

Year: Junior

Height: 6-2

Stats: 27.3 ppg, 16.3 rpg, 4.0 bpg

Notable: The Times Player of the Year was the most dominant player on  the floor. She had a double-double in all but one game. She is drawing the interest of several schools and she has a year left. An all-Southland pick, she can be the most dominating player in the south suburbs next season.

Sharee Greenlee, T.F. North

Position: Forward

Year: Senior

Height: 5-7

Stats: 16.2 ppg

Notable: Hit a shootout record seven 3-pointers in one game at the Martin Luther King Classic in Joliet and also had 27 points. She was made all-South Suburban Blue and gave the Meteors an outside scoring threat.

Amari Griffin, Beecher

Position: Center

Year: Senior

Height: 6-0

Stats: 18.0 ppg, 11.3 rpg, 2.0 bpg

Notable: She finished her career as the program's all-time leading rebounder with 1,288 and the program's second leading scorer with 1,620 points. Griffin was an all-River Valley Conference first-team selection and was the MVP of the Beecher Ladycat Fall Classic and was named to the Momence Holiday Tournament team.

Desiree Jackson, Seton Academy

Position: Center

Year: Freshman

Height: 5-10

Stats: 10.0 ppg, 12.2 rpg, 3.2 bpg

Notable: She was able to dominate in the paint against more experienced post players. In a loss to Rich East, she had 17 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. Jackson will definitely be one of the reasons Seton basketball will continue to have success.

 

Arielle Miree, Thornwood

Position: Guard

Year: Junior

Height: 5-4

Stats: 12.2 ppg, 3.8 apg, 2.4 spg

Notable: Miree ran the show for the Thunderbirds and was an all-SouthWest Suburban Red pick. This year, Miree became more of a scorer, but still was a playmaker. Coach Danielle Jania expects big things from her next year.

Sabrina Montgomery, T.F. North

Position: Center

Year: Senior

Height: 6-2

Stats: 11.2 ppg, 9.2 rpg

Notable: The Morgan State recruit dominated the middle and was one of the reasons why the Meteors finished undefeated in the South Suburban Blue. She was a first-team SSC Blue pick and gave North a strong inside game.

Charnelle Reed, Homewood-Flossmoor

Position: Guard

Year: Senior

Height: 5-10

Stats: 13.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.4 apg, 2.4 spg

Notable: The Western Illinois recruit was consistent all season in leading the Vikings to a regional title. She finished her career with 1,191 points. Reed was an all-SouthWest Suburban Blue pick and was a 71.4 percent free-throw shooter, making 70-of-8 attempts.

Kat Strong

Position: Guard/Forward

Year: Freshman

Height: 6-0

Stats: 11.5 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 8.2 apg

Notable: Strong showed poise and leadership despite being a freshman. She had several triple doubles, thus showing she can play inside or outside as she was forced to play the point out of necessity. Strong will be a dominating player the next three years.

Megan Walsh

Position: Center

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6-0

Stats: 10.7 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 2.2 bpg, 1.2 spg

Notable: Walsh showed maturity as she is a two-year starter. She many times controlled the game with her rebounding and helping a very youthful Spartans team to a regional win. She will be one of the south suburbs' best post players the next two years.

 

Second Team

Ninah Bertrand, T.F. South

So. | G | 5-3 | 6.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.1 spg, 1.8 apg

Notable: Was a key in the Rebels having a winning season as she was also able to rebound and played tough defense. An all-SSC Blue pick, she and Kaitlin Togtman give the Rebels a tough 1-2 punch at the guards next year.

Jaclene Bonnema, Illiana Christian

Sr. | C | 6-2 | 12.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.5 bpg

Notable: Bonnema led the Vikings in scoring and rebounding. She will play volleyball at Huntington (Ind.) University.

Amena Brent, Homewood-Flossmoor

Sr. | C | 6-1 | 7.9 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 1.2 spg

Notable: The Stetson recruit gave the Vikings the inside play they needed for a successful season. Brent took some of the pressure off the outside shooters, but also played tough defense in the post.

Ashley Carroll, Beecher

Jr. | F | 5-8 | 7.8 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.2 spg, 1.0 apg

Notable: The Ladycats' second-leading rebounder behind Griffin and led the team in offensive rebounds (130). Coach Mike Meyer said she brought toughness to the team.

Alanna Ferry, Marian Catholic

Sr. | G | 5-5 | 5.8 ppg, 3.3 apg, 1.7 spg

Notable: Floor leader who has been a part of the Marian tradition since she was a ball girl. She was unselfish in that she was not afraid to pass the ball or play tough defense. She was a senior leader on a young team.

Cynthia Frazier, Illinois Lutheran

So. | G | 5-6 | 9.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.5 bpg

Notable: She had 43 steals in her first year as a varsity starter. She battled through injuries and will be one of the top players in the River Valley Conference next year.

Ashley Henry, Crete-Monee

So. | F | 5-10 | 11.3 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 1.0 bpg

Notable: She was pretty consistent as the Warriors look to get their program back on the winning track. Henry can score and rebound and will be one of the best in the Southland Athletic Conference next year.

Isis Mance, St. Francis de Sales

Jr. | F | 6-0 | 10.1 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 2.6 bpg

Notable: She did a great job inside for the Pioneers, who made it to the Class 2A Chicago Christian Sectional final. Mance is a tough player who is not afraid to mix it up in the paint.

Ashton Millender, Marian Catholic

So. | G | 5-9  | 12.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.1 spg

Notable: One of the many underclassmen who stepped up for the Spartans. Millender had some big games and will have plenty more in her career.

Brittany Mitchell, Seton Academy

Sr. | G/F | 5-7 | 10. ppg, 7.0 rpg.

Notable: She it a 3-point buzzer beater to give the Sting the Class 1A Willows Academy Sectional win and had 17 points in the second half of the game. Mitchell did what was needed and was an all_GCAC White selection.

Teniya Page, Marian Catholic

Fr. | G | 5-7 | 7.9 ppg, 3.3 apg, 1.5 spg

Notable: Page is the first freshman to start at guard since two-time Times player of the year and now Notre Dame junior Kaila Turner did so in 2005-06. She is still earning the game, but stepped right in with a young team and will only get better.

Kaitlin Togtman, T.F. South

Jr. | G | 5-1 | 9.2 ppg, 2.0 spg, 1.0 apg

Notable: Hit 51 3-pointers (37 percent) and set a school record with eight 3s in a game against Illiana Christian. She also had a career-high 29 points. Her lack of size didn't stop her from going against taller guards. She was an all-SSC Blue pick.
