(Last week's ranking in parentheses; records through Wednesday)
1. Marian Catholic 3-1 (1)
The Spartans won three games at the Maine West Tip-Off Classic and are still learning their way around, but are maturing quickly. Megan Walsh is really doing a nice job on the boards. Alanna Ferry is a good floor leader. Marian plays Stevenson and Maine West this weekend.
2. Homewood-Flossmoor 5-2 (2)
The Vikings did a nice job Tuesday in beating Bloom Township. Lauren Parker is proving she is a force to be reckoned with. They play a tough Rich Central team on Monday, then take on Joliet West on Thursday. Amena Brent's post play will be a big key for H-F.
3. Seton Academy 4-1 (NR)
The Sting lost to Bowman Academy, but are off to a great start. First-year coach Kevin Green is excited about this team and he has reason to be. Seton will be tested, but there is depth and talent. Starting with four wins is encouraging.
4. Beecher 4-1 (5)
The Ladycats have a good inside player in Amari Griffin, but the rest of the team is pretty good. Paige Wehling is a good point guard who can run the show. Rachel Lee has proven she can rebound and score when needed. First-year coach Mike Meyer said it might take some time to adjust, but the team has made the transition well so far.
5. Bloom Twp. 3-3 (4)
A tough loss to Homewood-Flossmoor on Tuesday, but the Balzing Trojans won't get sidetracked. Freshman Katherine Strong is back after an injury and she will be a force. Bria Gaines continues to puzzle defenses.
