(Last week's ranking in parentheses; records through Wednesday)
1. Marian Catholic 5-2 (1)
The Spartans play Indiana power Penn on Saturday at the Whitney Young ChiTown Showdown. Dajahe Mullins has stepped up and done a nice job. Amber Williams has really become a take-charge player. The Spartans get some time off after Saturday, but then face Marist on Dec. 19. That should be a great game, a rematch of last year's Class 4A Lincoln-Way North Supersectional.
2. Homewood-Flossmoor 7-2 (2)
Danielle Woolfolk is becoming tough to stop as she had 26 points in a win over Rich Central on Monday. H-F took on Joliet West on Thursday, have Lockport on Tuesday and a big one at Lincoln-Way East on Dec. 15. This is a team which has big plans and is not going to let anyone get in its way.
3. Seton Academy 5-1 (3)
The Sting has quite a few players who can hurt you either with scoring or defense. Seton Academy may be the best team in the GCAC White, but coach Kevin Green will continue to push his players to get better.
4. Beecher 4-1 (4)
The Ladycats are at the top of the River valley Conference and did a nice job of defeating Grant Park on Monday. Ashley Carroll has come on strong, and her scoring and rebounding are a nice touch. Coach Mike Meyer is getting this team in shape, and they are adjusting to his style.
5. Bloom Twp. 5-3 (5)
Bria Gaines is having a great year, but she has a good supporting cast in Breanna Perry and Katherine Strong. The key will be to continue to play hard and not look past anyone. Gaines is unstoppable and is the go-to person. Perry can hit the boards, score or dish out an assist or two when she has to.
