Scouting Local Girls Tennis Teams
CRETE-MONEE
Players to watch: Tina Moscatel, Courtney
Peterson, Whitney Granger.
Outlook: Kelly Place has some experience, but
it could be a tough year for the Warriors.
HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR
Players to watch: Adesuwa Osaduohien, Jr.; Dana
Shannon, Sr.; Faith Huckabee, Sr.; Colleen Kenney , Sr.; Danielle
Dixon, Sr.
Outlook: New coach Don Baron inherits an
experienced squad. The Vikings have everybody back from last year's
team which tied for 10th at the state meet. There is a lot of
parity, according to Baron. A run at the team state title is not
out of the question.
Quote: "We have high expectations. The girls
are working hard with their conditioning to get to the next level.
I'm excited, this is a good group of girls to work with." !~
Baron
ILLIANA CHRISTIAN
Players to watch: Zhavia Gray, Sr.; Rachel
Blaauw, Sr.
Outlook: Coming off their best year (17-2) the
Vikings expect to be stronger this year. They have their Nos. 1
(Gray) and 2 (Blaauw) singles back.
Quote: "I'm optimistic. Two
doubles teams and Zhavia made it through sectional last year. We're
excited and should do well. This is a great group to work with." !~
coach Rob Lagerwey
MARIAN CATHOLIC
Players to watch: Gaby Rosales, Sr.; Giselle
Beebe, So.; Dean Williams, Sr.; Kelsey Tierney, Sr.
Outlook: After a 12-6 finish last year, the
Spartans are still young, but coach Scott Bodnar feels that if the
returning seniors can replace last year's five graduates, it will
be another winning year.
Quote: "Last year was a good year. If we
continue to work hard we can build on last season and even improve
on it." !~ Bodnar
THORNTON TOWNSHIP
Players to watch: Kristina Gaston, Sr.; Maya
Hendricks, Sr.
Outlook: The team has a new coach in Tom Walsh
and, lacking experience, will rely on Gaston and Hendricks as the
two returning seniors. The key will be the development of the newer
players.
Quote: "The girls have been working hard. We're
doing the best we can and hope for development from younger
players." !~ Walsh
T.F. NORTH
Players to watch: Angie Davis, Sr.; Amanda
Mitchell, Sr.; Kapri Burns, Sr.; Veronica Lozano, Sr.; Alexis
Davis, Sr.
Outlook: This is senior-dominated team and is
strong at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles as well as No. 1 and No. 2
doubles.

conditioning since January. Our mantra is ‘this is our year.'" !~
coach Mark McDaniel
T.F. SOUTH
Players to watch: Andriana Johnson, Jr.;
Jessica Gomez, So.; Jamie Hale, Sr.; Amirah Ali, So.
Outlook: With the top two players in the South
Suburban Blue Conference (Johnson and Gomez), the Rebels expect to
be able to compete for the conference title this year.
Quote: "Andriana and Jessica are our leaders.
They're the solid rocks of the team. Our expectations are high. We
feel we can compete with anyone. Look for great things to happen."
