UNION TWP | It took five games to decide the winner between the Wheeler and Munster girls volleyball teams on Monday night. Munster came out and went on a 5-2 run to take game five, 15-11. Munster won 24-26, 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 15-11.
“It was definitely a team effort,” Munster coach Tracy Summers said. “When we had some players that were having an off night, we had other players came in a make a difference.”
One of those players was Shannon Farrell, who led the team with 12 kills. Farrell had a kill in game five to give the Mustangs the lead a 3-2, and Munster would never trail again in the game.
Wheeler had a 22-18 lead in game one, but Munster game back and scored five straight points to take a 23-22 lead of their own. Shannon Doyle had a kill to put the Bearcats ahead 25-24, and an error by the Mustangs gave Wheeler a 26-25 win.
Munster trailed early in games two and three, but were able to come back and take five points leads in each.
“We were trailing by about four or five points in some of the games, and we were able to overcome that,” Summers said.
Wheeler then took a 23-18 lead in game four, but the Mustangs went on a 4-1 run to cut the lead to two points. A kill by Natalie row gave Wheeler game four, 25-22.
Shannon Doyle had 12 kills for the Bearcats (23-2), while Roe added 11.
