LOWELL| Munster coach Tracy Summers noticed that her team looked tired at the beginning of the Mustangs' match against Lowell.

The Mustangs were down 17-8 in Game 1, and that’s when Summer’s took a timeout to get some spark back in her team.

“I told them, everything that could go wrong, was going wrong, and that there was nowhere to go but up from here,” Summers said. “I expect them to give so much more energy and play our game.”

Times No. 5 Munster turned it around, and came back to win the Northwest Crossroads Conference game and sweep the Red Devils, 26-24, 25-15, 25-11.

“I’m happy about the comeback, it takes a special team to come back from a big deficit, especially at the varsity level,” Summer said.

Munster cut into Lowell’s early lead at 21-18, after two kills. The Mustangs never led until the score was 25-24 after an Elizabeth Kloos kill. A kill by Toni Dallecarbonare on the next point gave Munster the game.

Fourteen serving aces also helped the Mustangs, including two points near the end of the third game to put Munster up 24-11.

“We’re working on more aggressive serving, so I was happy with that,” Summers said.

Lowell was never able to gain a lead of more than two points in the last two games. The Red Devils brought it to within six points at 21-15 in the second game after a Ashley DeBoer kill, but the Mustangs went on a 4-0 run to win the game.

“I think our team has seen Munster play before, and they bring a lot of weapons,” Lowell coach Dana Jeffries said. “They’re going to put the ball on the dime. We got on a couple of runs, and when we pass the ball well we can really hit the ball but I think no matter what we do they’re (Munster) going to come back with fire.”

Dallecarbonare led the Mustangs with 10 kills, while Shannon Doyle added four. The Mustangs improve to 17-5 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

DeBoer had 10 kills to lead the Red Devils (6-15, 2-6)
