VALPARAISO | Defending state runners-up Valparaiso showed no signs of rust in its first gymnastics meet of the season.

The Vikings scored at least 27 points in each event and swept the top three places in every event on the way to a 110.2-100.225 victory over Crown Point in a Duneland Athletic Conference dual meet on Thursday.

“For a first meet, I think that’s pretty awesome,” Valparaiso coach Lorie Cook said. “We’ve got a lot of new faces, and it was good to see everyone step up and try and carry the tradition.”

Hannah Erwin won the all-around portion for the Vikings (1-0, 1-0 DAC) with a score of 37.55. She won the uneven bars with a mark of 9.575, the highest score in any event on the night. She also took first on the floor exercise with a score of 9.45.

Erwin finished second on the balance beam (9.475) and third on the vault (9.05).

“Hannah was solid all the way through, very consistent,” Cook said. “She’s doing a new vault, so it’s good to see her hit that.”

Emily Crosmer took second in the all-around for Valparaiso with a score of 35.25.

The Vikings had their best event on the meet on the balance beam, totaling 27.975 points as a team. Morgan Algozine took the event with a score of 9.5, while Crosmer and Rushelle Miller finished in a tie for third with marks of 9.0.

Algozine also placed second the floor exercise and third on the uneven bars.

Rushelle Miller and Caroline Miller each recorded a 9.15 score on the vault to finish in a tie for first.

Hannah Best had the best showing for Crown Point (0-1, 0-1 DAC). She finished third in the all-around with a total of 33.825.
