Sam Agyarko sees a balance between academics and athletics as one of the keys to a school's success.
It's that philosophy he brings as Thornwood High School's new athletic director. He succeeds Rod Galvan, who stepped down in June for health reasons. Agyarko, who came from the academic side and has been with a BENT instructor in computer science and technology, is enthusiastic in his new position.
"We are about the students and helping them become better students and to prepare them for the future," Agyarko said. "We feel that academics and athletics can succeed together.
"My job is to help our student-athletes succeed in the classroom and in the athletic arena."
Wesley commits: Thornton wide receiver Jauan Wesley recently committed to Iowa State, according to Thornton coach Bill Mosel.
The 6-foot, 175-pounder caught 42 passes last year for 727 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Teammates Tifonte Hunt (defensive back) and JoWahn Brown (quarterback) have been getting several offers.
Mosel said Hunt has offers from Central Michigan, Ball State, Cincinnati and Northern Illinois, while Brown has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State and Cincinnati as well as several others.
