Crete-Monee senior Marvie Keith knows this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
"I am excited and it is going to be a challenge to play in the game," Keith said. "These are guys I have watched on TV over the years.
"To be able to play against them (on the basketball court) is great."
Keith will play for a team of all-star boys basketball players in today's McLegends game against current and former NFL stars like Tai Streets, Napoleon Harris, Terrell Owens, Dennis Kelly (Philadelphia Eagles), Jason Avant (Eagles) and Marquice Cole (New England Patriots).
The teams are comprised of boys and girls all-stars from The Times Illinois and Indiana circulation area. The girls play the Coca-Cola Lady McLegends at 11 a.m. today at Thornton High School. The boys play at 2 p.m. against the NFL stars.
The games are sponsored by McDonald's, Coca-Cola, The Times Media Company, Power 92.3 FM and Beggars Pizza.
Keith has not let his listed 5-foot-8 size stop him on the court. He averaged 16 points and 4 assists per game.
"You can't let it get to you," Keith said. 'You have to go out and play big and not let that stop you. I just go out and play."
What did stop Keith was a hip-pointer and concussion. He missed four games in a January stretch.
"It was tough not being able to be on the court," Keith said. " I just sat on the bench and cheered my teammates on and encouraged them. You have to do what you can.
"I missed it (not playing) a lot."
