The 201-U school board is expected to name an athletic director for Crete-Monee High School at tonight's meeting and The Times has learned through an anonymous source that Linda Peete will be recommended for the position.
Her hiring is pending board approval. The board agenda posted on the district's website lists "Approve Hire of High School Athletic/Activities Director," but does not list a name. It does list under personnel other people who will be hired for specific positions.
At its June 17 meeting, Greg Schneider was on the agenda to be recommended for the position, but the board decided to table the item and re-open the process.
The source said Peete was not the first choice, but Schneider was the choice of a search committee that helped with the most recent search. The person said the committee interviewed five candidates and were asked to submit three names to the board in order of their preference. The committee decided unanimously that Schneider was the best person for the position.
Neither Peete, superintendent Dr. John M. Rodgers nor board president Dr. Nakia K. Hall could be reached for comment.
Peete, if approved, would succeed Gene Cahan, whose contract was not renewed for the upcoming school year during a March board meeting. Peete had worked at Chicago State University as athletic director of compliance and senior woman administrator. She most recently was the girls volleyball coach at Southland College Prep Charter High School in Richton Park.
