The Times No. 3 Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings employed a balanced attack, throwing for 229 yards and rushing for 226, as they defeated SouthWest Suburban Blue Conference foe Joliet West 48-14 on Friday night.
The twin tandem of Devonte and Deante Harley-Hampton each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns for Homewood-Flossmoor (3-0, 1-0). Deante also had a TD reception from Vikings QB Isaac Cutrara.
Joliet West fell to 2-1 (0-1).
Carmel Catholic 41, Marian Catholic 7: Carmel Catholic jumped out to a 21-0 lead and coasted to victory in both teams' East Suburban Catholic Conference opener.
Joe Hoy led all rushers with 125 yards, and Darius Crump rushed for 83 yards on eight carries and scored two touchdowns for the Corsairs (1-2), who have beaten the Spartans in 12 of their last 13 meetings.
Marian Catholic got much of its offense through the air as Pat Schmidt connected with Ki-Jana Crawford for a 45-yard touchdown pass for the team's lone score in the second quarter. Crawford was 9-of-18 passing for 94 yards. Crawford accounted for 66 yards on four catches for the Spartans (2-1).
Spartan placekicker Chris Taborn converted his lone conversion attempt to remain perfect (13-of-13) for the season.
Thornton 39, Thornwood 30: The Wildcats (2-1) won their SouthWest Suburban Red opener against Thornwood (1-2, 0-1).
Bloom Township 27, Kankakee 20: Justice Brantley's rushing touchdown with 38 remaining in regulation lifted the Blazing Trojans (2-1) over Kankakee (1-2) in both teams' Southland Conference opener.
Jordan Benavidas rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another for Bloom Township.
Lincoln-Way West 42, Thornridge 6: The Warriors (2-1) won their South Suburban Red opener.
Marhall Wooden scored the lone touchdown for the Falcons (0-3) from 6 yards out in the third quarter. Thornridge will host Lincoln-Way North next week.
