Crete-Monee two-way lineman Chris Slayton has committed to play football at Syracuse.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Slayton had 45 tackles this year and was a Times first-team all-area selection.

He also had nine sacks, six knock-downs and finished the year as an offensive lineman.

"They also have a good recruiting class from Chicago coming in, not to mention I have a good connection with their coaching staff," Slayton said. "I also like the fact it is far from Chicago."

Teammate Nyles Morgan has not yet committed, but has more than 30 offers.

Slayton was a big part of the Warriors' 2012 Class 6A state championship team.
