Marian Catholic singles player Gaby Rosales and Homewood-Flossmoor's doubles team of Timara Maxwell and Sophia Osabuohien both fell in the quarterfinals Friday at the IHSA state finals in the northwest suburbs.
Rosales won her fourth-round match, beating Belleville West's Kayleigh Thurwalker 6-0, 6-0, but lost in the quarterfinals to Lyons Township's Alex Chatt, 6-2, 6-3.
"She is a very good player and she hits the ball hard," Rosales said of Chatt. "I got a little behind and because of the way she plays, it was just hard for me to come back."
Rosales will play Lake Forest's Christina Zordani this morning in a consolation quarterfinal match at Rolling Meadows.
Maxwell and Osabuohien beat Highland Park's Nicole Berkman and Janine Cooper 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3, then fell to 6-3, 6-0 to Stevenson's Kendall Kirsch and Alexxis Kiven.
Maxwell and Osabuohien will play Hinsdale Central's Rugile Valiunaite and Katie Lee in a consolation quarterfinal match at Rolling Meadows.
Also in the singles consolation bracket, T.F. South's Bryttish Burts fell 6-0, 6-0 to Geneva's Kirby Enck. H-F'sHaleigh Porter won her first consolation match, then fell 6-1, 6-1 to Warren's Karyna Bihel. Teammate Allison Lessner lost 6-0, 6-1 to Fenwick's Laura Gutierrez.
In the team standings, New Trier is in first place with 37 points. Homewood-Flossmoor is eighth with 20 points. Marian is tied for 24th with eight points.
Class 2A Rich East Regional: Marian Catholic managed to rally from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the first half, but Washington scored three unanswered goals in the second half en route to a 5-2 championship win.
All-East Suburban Catholic Conference player and team co-MVP Alec Guarino and Samuel Roche each scored for Marian Catholic (14-7-5).
