Chris Pruitt is out as the T.F. North girls basketball coach.
Pruitt confirmed Friday she turned in her resignation, but did not wish to comment on whether or not she was forced to resign.
Athletic director Dale Pietranczyk said her resignation is pending District 215 board approval. He also would not comment on if the resignation was a forced one.
Pruitt was 22-28 in two seasons at T.F. North. The Meteors were 10-14, losing 67-41 to Marist in the Class 4A T.F. North Regional championship.
She succeeded Tim Zasada, who built North into a south suburban power. He resigned in January of 2012 to become the Reavis football coach. -- Mike Nieto
Terry returns as St. Francis De Sales football coach: For the second straight day, St. Francis De Sales has hired a coach it fired.
Thursday, it rehired Kevin Wolfe as boys basketball coach and Friday it announced that John Terry would return as football coach.
Terry was announced as coach in June of 2013, but was released in August. He is the program's third coach in two seasons.
Kevin Payne, David Cross and Victor Roberts were hired as assistants. The Pioneers are scheduled to begin play in the Catholic League this fall.
Illinois Lutheran player signs: Mack Newson III recently signed to play basketball and baseball at NAIA Lindenwood University in Belleville.
Newson was a four-year starter in basketball at Illinois Lutheran and a three-time all-River Valley Conference performer. He finished with over 1,200 career points and over 300 assists.
In baseball, Newson was an all-conference catcher as a sophomore and is currently starting in center field for the Chargers.
Putnam County Wood Bat Tournament: Times No. 3 Illinois Lutheran (15-1) beat Bureau Valley 13-0 and Putnam County 6-1.
Against Putnam County, winning pitcher Grant Farmer struck out 11 and went the distance. He was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Joey Kendrick was 2-for-3.
Evan Falk homered and was the winning pitcher against Bureau Valley. Sam Geraci and Farmer had three RBIs each against the Storm.
Beecher 11, Tri-Point 1 (5 inn.): The No. 4 Bobcats (12-5, 9-0) remained atop the River Valley Conference with the road win.
Justin Roggeman had two RBIs and Zac Ruzich had two hits. Garrett Short struck out seven in the win.
Crete-Monee 12, Wilmington 6: General McArthur hit two doubles and a triple while driving in three runs and scoring three to pace the Warriors (8-7). Logan Kent also had a triple, and drove in two runs. Brandon Hannigan hit 4-for-4 and had three RBIs as Crete-Monee tore the game open with nine runs in the fifth inning.
Homewood-Flossmoor 6, Lincoln-Way North 4: Morgan Williams was 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs to lead the Vikings (5-8) to the win over the Phoenix.
Gabby Cooke had a duoble and two RBIs.
Seton Academy 14, Hope Academy 4: Jordan Cray (2-1) and Kayla Jones combined for a one-hitter as the Sting (5-4) picked up a road win.
Simone Clemmons was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Aliyah Qualls scored three runs.
Thornwood 16, Morgan Park 0 (5 inn.): Hannah McPherson struck out nine while pitching a two-hit, five-inning shutout, and also had a solo home run in the first inning.
Destinee Harris was 2-for-2, including a three-RBI double in the fourth inning that set off a nine-run rally that hastened game's conclusion, and Madison Schweitzer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Thornwood (4-7).
Rock Island Invitational: Homewood-Flossmoor's Matt Anyiwo won the "A" Flight of the 400-meter dash and 800, vut the the host Rocks won the team title with 173 points at the Rock Island Public Schools Stadium.
Anyiwo ran 49.12 in the 400 and 1:55.17 in the 800. Teammates Emmanuel Spearman (50.06) and Christian Hoover (2:00.78) won the "B" Flight in the 400 and 800 respectively.
Thornwood finished second with 167 points, while the Vikings were fifth (138 points). T.F. North was ninth (81 points).
Thornwood's Eric Maymonwon the "A" Flight pole vault (13-feet) and teammate Luqman Muhammed won the "B" Flight (11-6). Jaelin Carter took first in the 110 hurdles "C" Flight (16.08).
T.F. North's Adonis Barnes won the 110 hurdles "A" Flight in 14.97.
Chris Marszalek Invitational: Bloom Township's Brittany Thomas won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 12.59 and 25.49 seconds respectively to lead the Blazing Trojans to a fifth-place finish (54 points) at Lockport.
Homewood-Flossmoor was sixth with 52 points, Crete-Monee seventh (32 points) and Thornwood ninth (31 points).
Bloom's Kierra Griggs won the 400 (59.87).
H-F's Jayla Stewart won the 100 hurdles (14.33) and was on the Vikings' winning 400 relay team (48.49). Also on the team were Christin Salley, Aliyah Mickens and Antoinette Broughton.
Crete's 1,600 relay team of Loureasha Smith, Latris Daniels, Chsity Powell and Tineja Foy won in 4:03.59. Daniels won the triple junp (36-2 1/2).

Homewood-Flossmoor 12, Lincoln-Way North 5: Hayden Santefort scored four goals and Broc Thompson had three to lead the Vikings (11-12) past Lincoln-Way North. In addition to making 16 saves in goal, Jakobi McClellan scored a goal.
