Times No. 1 Marian Catholic overcame a 13-point, third-quarter deficit to escape with a 58-50 East Suburban Catholic Conference boys basketball win Friday night over host St. Patrick.
Marian trailed 43-32 entering the fourth quarter, but opened the quarter with a 20-2 run on the Shamrocks to win its sixth-straight game. The Spartans (21-2, 6-0) are off to their best start in the program's history.
Tyler Ulis hit 12 of 14 from the foul line to finish with 24 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals. Ki-Jana Crawford had 13 points and four steals.
Terrone Parham added seven points and four rebounds, while John Oliver added six points.
Illinois Lutheran 76, Donovan 47: Collin Borns' game-high 25 points carried the Chargers (14-4, 8-3) to the River Valley Conference win over the Wildcats.
Mack Newson and Sam Geraci had 14 points each.
Mount Carmel 60, St. Laurence 49: The Times No. 3 Caravan (18-6, 9-2) overcame a slow start for the Catholic League North win.
The Caravan led 28-27 at halftime.
David Nichols' 25 points helped Mount Carmel to its ninth straight win. Christian Searles had 17 points and Gabe Grant added 12.
Mount Carmel will play De La Salle at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the upper bracket of the Catholic League tournament. The game is at the University of Chicago.
Bradley-Bourbonnais 49, Thornridge 44: The Falcons (6-17, 3-8) fell short in an upset bid of the Boilermakers (16-3, 9-2) in SouthWest Suburban Red play.
Bradley led 36-28 after three, but Thornridge outscored it 16-13 in the fourth quarter.
Carly Henry's 11 points and Billy Randle's 10 led the Falcons. Victor Trout had five steals.
St. Rita 91, Seton Academy 60: Charles Matthews' 22 points and 10 rebounds led the Mustangs (15-6, 10-1) past the Sting (5-18, 1-10) to win the Catholic League South title.
Christopher Seaton led Seton Academy with 29 points.
Hales Franciscan 91, St. Francis de Sales 78: The Pioneers fell to the Spartans in the Catholic League South.
Timothy Christian 53, Illiana Christian 36: Caleb Jonkman led the Vikings (12-10, 5-6) with 10 points in the Metro Suburban Conference loss to the Trojans.
Hillcrest 63, Oak Forest 57: The Hawks (16-6, 9-1) maintained sole possession of first place in the South Suburban Blue with the win over the host Bengals (18-4, 8-2).
Oak Forest and T.F. South, which meet Tuesday in Lansing, are tied for second place.
