Rod Galvan has resigned as Thornwood's athletic director.
Galvan told The Times he submitted his letter Wednesday morning and is resigning for medical reasons.
"I hope to be back to coach wrestling," Galvan said. "I just have to take care of some (health) things first."
Galvan is the school's wrestling coach. He has been the school's athletic director for two years.
He said he will be on the committee to pick a new football coach. In May, Will Milhouse was let go from that position.
District 205 human resources director Benjamin Cooper said Kai Freeman is the acting athletic director.
STREATER MOVES ON: After leading St. Francis de Sales to three straight Class 2A regional titles and appearances in the sectional finals the last two years, Terrence Streater is leaving to be the girls basketball coach at Eisenhower.
Eisenhower athletic director Tim Baker confirmed that Streater is the Cardinals' new coach. Streater succeeds T.f. South grad Dana Krilich, who stepped down after the 2012-13 season.
Streater, who did not return calls to The Times, was 76-68 in five years at St. Francis de Sales.
DOUBLE WINNER: While Mount Carmel won state titles in football and baseball the same school year, Thornwood won two state titles by different genders in the same season.
The 1991 Thornwood baseball and softball teams each won Class AA state titles.
Future major leaguer Cliff Floyd was on the baseball team and future Olympian and college All-American Michelle Venturella was on the softball team. She is now the softball coach at Illinois-Chicago.
