CALUMET CITY | T.F. North has had trouble finishing games all season, especially in its previous two losses.
Friday was no different as the Meteors fell 38-26 to undefeated Argo in a South Suburban Crossover game. Their not being able to finish may have finished their chances of making the playoffs.
The North fell to 2-3 and has games against Tinley Park, Lemont, T.F. South and Oak Forest.
“We just have to get better,” senior Nikita Smith said. “We had a good week of practice, but we just didn't finish things off tonight. It's a lack of focus and a lack of discipline.”
The Meteors muffed two onside kicks by Argo to begin the game and trailed 14-0. They battled back as Myles Barbee caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Davion Sylvester with 6:19 left in the second to make it 14-6. North then tied it at 14-14 when Sylvester hit Anthony Watkins for a 9-yard score with 8:12 left in the third quarter.
However, the Meteors could not contain the Argonauts when they needed to.
“We make the mistakes each week,” North coach Artie Rogers said. “Every loss, we were either tied or ahead in the third quarter. It is lack of discipline and that is my fault.”
Rogers cited a couple of drives where the Meteors did not have enough men on the field.
“We had 10 on a punt return and nine on that last extra-point attempt by them. We are breaking down and not getting the job done.”
Argo scored twice after the Meteors tied the game, but Sylvester hit Smith for a score, but Argo's Jason Noel scored on a 46-yard run to make it 36-20 with 1:37 left.
“We let them break away and score on that,” Rogers said. “At least we got the ball back and scored.”
Sylvester scored on a 2-yard run with 40.9 seconds left.
