RICHTON PARK | Saturday's Rich East Invitational may have been the first major bowling meet of their varsity careers, but T.F. North freshmen Capri Howard and Candice Redman looked more like seasoned seniors.

Redman (1,059) placed third overall, while Howard placed fifth (1,047) in the individual standings at Lakewood Bowl, helping the Meteors (4,741) to a second place team finish at the Rich East Invitational.

Lincoln-Way East edged T.F. North 4,764-4,741 for the team title. T.F. South (4,129) finished in 10th (4,129), and Crete-Monee was 13th (3,372).

"I know that I'm bowling over my average right now," Redman said. "But I'm getting better with every practice, so I am bowling better now."

The Meteor freshmen looked right at home on the lanes, and Howard used the energy of the team to help her elevate her scores. Meteors Brianna Montgomery (915) and Tierra Brown (909) finished 21st and 23rd, respectively.

"I love the momentum of the team and I feel like the momentum gets me going," Howard said. "The loud cheering helps, and it keeps you in it. I feel like we did good up until the sixth game."

T.F. South's Kayla Garcia (927) placed 20th in the individual standings and felt the team may have pressing too much.

"We put too much pressure on ourselves," she said. "We expected too much of ourselves for the first tournament. We're just trying to work on what we need to work on, and definitely do better than what we did today. This is just a learning experience."

T.F. South's Natalie Pascual (849) finished 33rd and is confident the Rebels will bounce back from the tough afternoon.

"We definitely could have done better," she said. "I think we put our heads down way too soon. As soon as we got here, we were stressed out and nervous. We should have come with better attitudes to begin."

Crete-Monee's Dionna Gordon (737) will be a leader on the Warriors bowling team this season, and she is looking for a higher average.

"I did OK, but I can always improve," she said. "I want to average around a 150 and (Saturday) I was at 120, so it can get higher. I'm not quite happy, but it's a long day and you can get tired out quickly."
