With the summer conditioning program set to begin, Thornwood is without a football coach.
Wilber Milhouse said he was told on Friday that he would not be back as the Thunderbirds' coach.
"This is the first time in 17 years I will have a summer off," Milhouse said. "I can't control what school board does.'
The head coaching and eight assistant positions are posted on the District 205 website.
Milhouse, a Mount Carmel graduate, was 15-39 in six years. The Thunderbirds were 3-6 last year. His best season was 2011 when Thornwood started out 4-0, then finished 5-4. It just missed making the playoffs.
"I just want what is best for the kids," Milhouse said. "I hope they get someone in here for the summer conditioning."
