Christian Searles' 20 points helped lead the Mount Carmel basketball team to a 61-41 win over South Shore Monday in a quarterfinal of the Class 4A Mount Carmel Regional.
The Caravan (11-16) will play top-ranked Simeon at 6 p.m. today in one semifinal.
Malik Garrett had nine points and four steals, while Devante Charles had six rebounds. David Nichols scored 10 points with three assists.
Class 4A Thornwood Regional: In a battle of mentor and protege, the protege won as Thornwood beat Lincoln-Way Central 67-37 in a quarterfinal game.
Thornwood's Paul Slavich was an assistant under Lincoln-Way Central coach Bob Curran when Curran was Thornwood's coach.
The Thunderbirds will play Bloom Township at 7:30 p.m. today in one semifinal.
Donte Thurman's 18 points led Thornwood.
In the other quarterfinal, Minooka beat Plainfield Central 65-50.
Class 3A Hillcrest Regional: Joseph Gant's 15 points led Thornridge in its 61-59 loss to Oak Forest in one quarterfinal.
