NORMAL | Rain washed away the second round of the Class 2A Boys Golf State Tournament at Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University on Saturday, costing the Illiana Christian High School team any chance of moving up in the standings.
The Vikings finished in last place of the 12-team field with their 66-over-par 350 on Friday.
Golfers squeezed in a couple holes on Saturday morning, but after an extended rain delay, play was called and Friday's first-round marks were used as the final scores.
"We were hoping for an opportunity to show we can play better today," Illiana Christian coach Jack Rudenga said after the trophy ceremony concluded shortly after 1 p.m., "but it's not easy to make it this far. To be able to go to the state finals is quite an accomplishment."
The Vikings boasted five seniors -- Jon Zandstra, Chris Tempelman, Jake Boender, Trevor Wheaton and Dan Lagestee -- and freshman Matthew Zandstra at the tournament.
Jon Zandstra (82) and Matthew Zandstra (87) led the Vikings on Friday, and Tempelman added a 90. Boender rounded out Illiana Christian's scorecard with a 91.
"We worked hard to get here this year," Tempelman said. "It was disappointing to not play today, but I'll always remember being at state with us five seniors and five of my best friends."
Belleville Althoff took home its second-consecutive title after its 321 on Friday via a fifth-score tiebreaker over University High.
U High's Adam Baracani won the individual crown with a 1-over-par 72.
