Anybdoy have a dry field for rent?
If so, Crete-Monee baseball coach and athletic director Gene Cahan wants to talk with you.
"We want to maybe rent a nice, dry field for a Saturday and play six (Southland Athletic) conference games," Cahan said. "Each team can play two games, kind of a double round-robin type."
Cahan admits he felt more like Gene Kelly than Gene Cahan, figuring singing in the rain is better than crying about trying to reschedule games. As athletic director, he also has to try and fit in games for three levels of baseball, softball, girls soccer and two levels of boys and girls track.
"This has not been a good spring," Cahan said. "We need to get our conference games in, so you end up bumping your nonconference games."
The Warriors are scheduled to play Bloom Township in a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. today.
T.F. South and Illiana Christian baseball and softball teams will not play this weekend because both schools have prom.
"We've played three games, all (Metro Suburban) conference," Illiana softball coach Mike Oppenhuis said. "It's terrible. We didn't play our first game until last week.
"We are running out of time."
The Vikings had to cancel their nonconference game with Munster on Wednesday to get in a conference game with Glenbard South. The baseball team has played five games.
T.F. South athletic director Marc Brewe said this has been the worst spring in several years. The girls track team's invitational was canceled on Wednesday.
"You reschedule, then you reschedule again," Brewe said. "We have four off days left in softball, now we will probably have to play on those days. It doesn't give any days left for practice."
T.F. North baseball coach Mike Kosiara said he will play twilight doubleheaders since North has lights at its diamond.
"You don't want to double up, but what do you do? You have no choice," Kosiara said. "We are lucky to have lights. we can play one conference team at 4:30 (p.m.) and another at 7.
"We probably won't have many nonconference games and that's too bad because you want to get some teams in you don't normally see."
