Jared Buzan struck out 12 in six innings and was 2-for-2 to lead Times No. 3 Illinois Lutheran to a 4-3 baseball win over Spring Valley Hall in the championship game of the Putnam County Wooden Bat Tournament on Saturday.

Collin Borns had a double for the Chargers (16-1) and Sam Geraci pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Illinois Lutheran scored three times in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. The Red Devils came back with two runs in the fourth.

Mount Carmel 2, Brother Rice 0: Marko Boricich struck out 10 and Dave Dobrinich homered as The Times No. 1 Caravan (16-2, 7-0) beat the Crusaders in a Catholic League Blue game at Haggerty Field.

Josh Stowers doubled for Mount Carmel, which had just five hits, but took advantage of four Brother Rice errors.

Homewood-Flossmoor 3, Lincoln-Way Central 0: Malcolm Grady struck out 10 and threw a five-hit shutout as The Times No. 2 Vikings (11-3) beat the Knights.

Parker Coleman was 2-for-3.

Marian Catholic 1, Carmel Catholic 0 (9 inn.): Chris Austin's single drove in the winning run as the Spartans (10-7, 2-1) topped the Corsairs in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

Bryce Hennessy (3-3) went the distance, striking out six.

Seton Academy 23, Leo 1 (4 inn.): Winning pitcher Devin Howard (3-1) had four RBIs. Eron Evans and Tyrone Gaston had three hits each as the Sting (5-6, 2-0) won in the Catholic League Red.

Andrean 11-10, Illiana Christian 2-1: Caleb Jonkman and Kyle Van Kalker each had an RBI in the opener as the Vikings (5-8) were swept by Indiana Times No. 1 Andrean (13-0).

Lucas Miedema had two hits in the nightcap.

Hanover Central 19-14, Beecher 0-8: Cameron Morgan had two RBIs in the nightcap as The Times No. 4 Bobcats (12-7) dropped a pair to The Times Indiana No. 6 Wildcats.

St Francis 11-11, Hales Franciscan 1-0: Kemari Simmons, Erik Rodriquez and Joey Perez combined to give up one run in the doubleheader as the Pioneers swept the Spartans (6-6-1). Simmons went 4-for-6 with a grand slam. Michael Roggekamp went 4-for-6 with a triple. Michael Chavez was 4-for-8 with three RBIs. Perez went 2-for-6 with four RBIs. Kenneth Catron went 2-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs.

Bishop Noll 3, Whiting 2: Larry Crisler went 2-for-3, and the Warriors (5-6) used a two-run fourth to slip past the Oilers (2-5).

Softball

Thornwood 16-19, Proviso West 6-8: Hannah McPherson had a pair of triples and Madison Schweitzer had five RBIs as the Thunderbirds (6-7) swept West and equaled last year's win total.

Marian Catholic 3, St. Viator 1: Susie Baranski was 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base to lead the No. 3 Spartans (7-6, 3-3) past the Lions in ESCC action.

Allison Spence (4-3) struck out seven in a complete-game performance and also homered.

Clark 17, St. Francis De Sales 6: Kylee Carrasco was 2-for-2 with two RBIs in the loss to Clark.

Badminton

DeKalb Tournament: Lyons Township edged T.F. South for the team title with 34 points. The Rebels had 32.

South's Cassie Breshock and Jenna Pasko won the No. 1 doubles title.

Boys water polo

Naperville Central 10, Homewood-Flossmoor 6: Mason Rendel and Broc Thompson had two goals each, but the Vikings (11-13) lost to the RedHawks.

Girls track

Bremen Invitational: T.F. North's Charlene Horton won the 200 meters (26.5) as the Meteors took fourth with 61 points.

Joliet West won the team title with 134 points. T.F. South was seventh (22 points) and Marian Catholic was eighth (19 points) in the 12-team meet.

Co-ed track

Hanover Relays: The host Wildcats won the meet with 202 points, while Bishop Noll was second with 142.

Bishop Noll won the high jump and sprint medley relay.
