Beecher Ladycats

Last year's record: 12-16  (8-4 River Valley Conference)

Coach: Adam Keen

Assistant: Emily Doersam

Players to watch: Danielle Snuckel, 5-7, Jr., G (11.3 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.0 spg, 77.6 FT pct.); Sam Pillbeam, 5-7, So., G (4.0 ppg, 2.0 apg, 3.0 rpg, 2.0 spg); Taylor Johnson, 5-7, Fr., F; Emily Landis, 5-6, Jr., G.

Outlook: Snuckel and Pillbeam are the two returning starters. "If we can play fast and physically while staying under control," coach Keen said, "we will be a tough team to beat."

Bloom Township Blazing Trojans

Last year's record: 22-6 (10-0 Southland Athletic Conference champs)

Coach: Ron Newquist

Assistants: Bobby Joyce, Nikita Odom, Mike Kavalunas, Scott Turner, Renee Hardy

Players to watch: Danielle King, Jr. (15.5 ppg, 7.2 apg, 6.5 rpg, 4.5 spg); Jailyn Lumpkin, So., (7.3 ppg, 3.2 apg); Anika Johnson, So. (6.4 ppg, 4.5 rpg).

Outlook: Junior Katherine Strong is out for the year with a torn ACL. King is one of the top guards in the area."We have one of the toughest schedules around," Newquest said. "My girls are battle-tested and ready to go at it."

Crete-Monee Warriors

Last year's record: 24-5 (6-4 Southland Athletic Conference)

Coach: Christina Cobbins

Assistant: Durant Freeman

Players to watch: Alexia DeBose, 5-6, Sr., G (9.0 ppg, 4.0 apg, 6 rpg); Ashley Henry, 6-0, Sr., F (12.0, 11.0 rpg); Marsha Howard, 6-1, Jr., F( 12.0 ppg, 12.0 rpg); Sarah Humphrey, 6-1, So. F; Lindzy Cox, 5-7, So., G (10.1 ppg, 4.6 spg, 3.2 rpg, 1.9 apg).

Outlook: Henry, an Eastern Michigan recruit, and DeBose, an Alabama A&M recruit, are expected to be the leaders.

Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings

Last year's record: 18-10

Coach: Tony Smith

Assistants: Evan Bercat, Caitlin Pauley,

Players to watch: Amarah Coleman, 5-11 Sr., G (11.9 ppg, 4.9 apg, 3.9 spg at Bolngbrook); Jaiveonna Norris, 6-0 Sr., F (10.1 ppg, 8.6 rpg); Kandace Tate, 6-3 Sr., F; Faith Suggs, 6-1 Jr., G; Eva Rubin, 6-5, Fr., C.

Outlook: Coach Smith is fresh off building the suburbs' premier program over 12 seasons at Bolingbrook (281-29). With five talented transfers plus seven returning varsity players, a 6-3 senior back from a season dedicated to volleyball and a 6-5 freshman, the Vikings are suddenly one of the top teams in the region.

Illiana Christian Vikings

Last year's record:  3-26 (0-12 Metro Suburban)

Coach: Dave Bosman

Assistant: Liz Metcalfe

Players to watch: Tiffany Groen, 5-8, Sr., G/F (3.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg); Gabby Kreykes, 5-8, Fr., G; Bria Cole, 5-7, Fr., G.

Outlook: The Vikings struggled and lost many close games last season. "This year’s team includes great senior leaders, hardworking juniors, who have improved over the summer, and two skilled, freshmen guards who will help us take better care of the ball." Bosman said

Illinois Lutheran Chargers

Last year's record: 7-18 (2-10 River Valley Conference)

Coach: John Dorn

Assistant: Matt Heyn

Players to watch: Senior Caroline Kuether, 5-10, Sr., F (8.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 50 blocks); Janelle Heyn, Jr., G; Kayla Adams, Jr., G.

Outlook: Kuether can dominate inside and should be more of a scoring threat. Heyn averaged 10 points per game over the final 10 games. “The time is now," Dorn said. (The juniors) have been playing a varsity schedule for the past two years and hopefully that experience starts to pay off."

Marian Catholic Spartans

Coach: Dan Murray

Assistant: Tonishea Mack

Last year's record: 33-1 (9-0 East Suburban Catholic Conference), Class 4A state champs

Players to watch: Ashton Millender, 5-10, Sr., G (15.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.0); Teniya Page, 5-8, Jr., G ( 12.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.7 apg); Kauai Bradley, 6-0, Jr, G/F (6.7 ppg, 6.8 rpg); Dajhae Mullins, 5-11, Sr., F (injured most of the year).

Outlook: New coach Dan Murray has a great cast returning from the Class 4A state championship team. DePaul recruit Millender leads a talented cast. Page has become an outstanding point guard and Bradley, who hit the game-winner in the state title game, will be a force.

Seton Academy Sting

Last year's record: 23-9

Coach: Kevin Green

Assistants: Everett Bailey, Michael Boyd

Players to watch: Ebony Bailey, 5-7, Sr., G (17.9 ppg, 5 spg, 6 apg); Mariah Cole, 6-1, Sr., C (10.1 ppg 8 rpg 1 bpg); Alfatinee Boyd 5-5, Jr., G (5 ppg, 2 spg); Danielle Bailey 5-5, So., G (3 ppg, 5 apg); Brittany Hardeman 5-10, Fr., F.

Outlook: The Sting is young having lost Charlita Berry and Tiffany Ellis from a program that has made two straight super-sectional appearances. "This team is on a mission," Green said.

St. Francis de Sales Pioneers

Last year's record: 17-14

Coach: Ken Mattini

Assistant: Thomas Casanova

Players to watch: Jailin Burchett, 5-11, Sr., C; Keaera Cunningham, 5-9, Sr., G/F; Lyric Lowe, 5-3, Jr., G; Takhari Moore, 5-0, So., C/F.

Outlook: Burchett will have to be a force inside and Cunnigham is a great all-around player. "I am always excited about the season," Mattini said. "It'll be a slow start with a very good finish."

Thornridge Falcons

Last year's record: 0-25 (0-14 Southwest Suburban Red)

Coach: Danny Wafford

Assistant: Andrea Frederick

Players to watch: Camille Taylor, 5-11, Sr., F; Shakiria McCoy, 6-1, Jr., C; Jacara Hogan, 5-8, G; Raven Watts, 5-9, F.

Outlook: Wafford is the program's fourth head coach in as many years. Taylor and McCoy give the Falcons a strong front line."Expect these young ladies to compete like never before," Wafford said. "There will be No marking a 'W' on their calendars just because teams are playing Thornridge."

Thornton Wildcats

Coach: Erin Wright

Assistant: Randal Sieber

Players to watch: Takia Johnson, Jr., G; Briahna Riley, Sr., C; Mya Robinson, Fr., G

Outlook: The Wildcats made some strides last year and have will be challenged in the SWSC Red.

T.F. North Meteors

Last year's record: 12-14

Coach: Chris Pruitt

Assistants: Shaun Posley, Shajaunna Jordan, LaShaundia Sandifer

Players to watch: Sr. Chanel Howard, 5-2, Sr., G (8.3 ppg, 1.2 spg, 23 3pointers); Ester Fagbemi, 5-11, Sr., F (9.8 rpg, 11 blocks, 38 steals); Tyra Johnson, 6-0, Jr. (4/.0 ppg).

Outlook: Guard Taisha Johnson is out for the year with a torn ACL and the squad will battle the numbers game. "Our quick defense will create a lot of turnovers and Chanel Howard will be a threat at the 3 point line," Pruitt said.

T.F. South Rebels

Last year's record: 9-15

Coach: Steve Breshock

Assistants: Tara Breshock, Tim Russell, Shane Mosel

Players to watch: Ninah Betrand, 5-5, Sr., G (8.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2.6 apg, 3.1 spg); Kameron Dickens, 5-7, Jr, F (8.1 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.04 spg, 1.1 apg); India Pierson 5-8, So., G/F (4.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1 spg); Ren'Cia Rolling, 5-3, So., G.

Outlook: Bertrand will have to be the floor leader as the team is young, but has some experience in Dickens and Pierson. "The team is excited to get started, which in itself is kind of scary," Breshock said.

Thornwood Thunderbirds

Last year's record: 16-11 (8-6 SouthWest Suburban Red)

Players to watch: Ashah Davis, 55, Sr., G; Dominique Hill, 6-8, Jr., G/F; Janeah Stewart, 5-9, Sr., F (6.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg).

Outlook: Jennifer Durkin is the interim coach as Danielle Jania is taking a one year leave of absence. Stewart is out until December for medical reasons.

Washington Patriots

Last year's record: 13-6 (6-2 Public League Green)

Coach: Torrino Conner

Players to watch: Catherine Uzoras, 6-1, C (14.0 ppg); Renata Vejacic, 5-4, G (14.0 ppg).

Outlook: Vekjacic and Uzoras are the Patriots best players and the rest of the team will have to contribute.
