Last week: Mount Carmel beat St. Rita 20-15; Downers Grove North beat Wheaton-Warrenville South 10-7.
Advancement: If Mount Carmel wins, it would play at No. 1 Edwardsville or at No. 3 Lincoln-Way East. If Downers Grove North wins, it would host No. 1 Edwardsville or play at No.3 Lincoln-Way East.
The Breakdown: Mount Carmel's defense has been tough, but had a couple of lapses against St. Rita. It resulted in two touchdowns. Michigan State recruit Enoch Smith is becoming a dominant player. He forced two fumbles in the Caravan's second-round win. Colin Knusta (42 tackles, 2 INTs) had a big interception to help seal the win. Linebackers Sam Connolly (47 takcles, 11 TFLs), Troy Weissenhoffer (24 tackles, 10 TFLs) and Nick Johnson (29 tackles, 17 TFLs) have been impressive. Matt Domer had 273 yards rushing and scored the game winner. Domer has rushed for 966 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jimmy Mickens has been a big force, leading the team in rushing with 978 yards and 12 TDs. Quarterback Marko Boricich has run the option veer well. He has rushed for 294 yards and is 48-of-87 passing for 671 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. This will be a battle of the veers as Downers Grove North uses a split-back veer with Kyle Leto and Chrles Creamer. Trojans quarterback Sebastian Calvino rushed for 119 yards and a tuochdown last week. Defensive end Vontae Diggs has been a force for the Trojans. Mount Carmel is averaging 366.5 yards per game, while holding its opponents to 165. It has outscored its opposition 397-89. -- Mike Nieto
