T.F. North (3-4, 2-2 SSC Blue) at T.F. South (3-4, 1-3)

When: 7 p.m. today

The breakdown: There is more than District 215 bragging rights and the Mushroom-Wooden Shoe Trophy as the winner keeps its slim playoff chances alive, while the loser is out of the playoff picture. T.F. North stunned Lemont 41-40 and snapped a three-game losing streak. Anthony Watkins is a triple threat, and he could pose a big threat to the Rebels defense. South has not been over .500 this season. Both teams have struggled to finish games as their records indicate. This has the makings of another classic rivalry and it should be played in front of a packed house.-- Mike Nieto

Rich South (1-6, 0-3 SAC) at Crete-Monee (6-1, 3-0)

When: 6:30 p.m. today

The breakdown: The Warriors showed they could win another close one with a 12-7 win over Bloom Township. Nyles Morgan, Jonathan Draper, Chris Slayton and company are making life miserable for opposing ball carriers. The offense is ready to break out and the offensive line is pushing people around. Quarterback Frank Douglas is showing his leadership, while Trevon Smith gives the Warriors a tough ground attack. Kevon Love gives another threat as a receiver. Crete cannot look ahead to Rich Central in Week 9. Rich South would love to pull off an upset.  -- Mike Nieto

Homewood-Flossmoor (6-1, 4-1 SWSC Blue) at Lockport (2-5, 2-3)

When: 7 p.m. today

The breakdown: The struggling Porters offer Homewood-Flossmoor a chance to regroup after last week’s overtime loss to Bolingbrook. Sophomore back Deante Harley-Hampton, knocked out of the showdown with the Raiders with a bruised left ankle late in the first half, promises to be back. That and Isaac Cutrara’s passing prowess should provide enough offense. Expect the Vikings’ defense to be tighter against Lockport. To gain a share of its first title since 2003, H-F has to win out while Bolingbrook (7-0, 5-0) loses to either Lincoln-Way East or Sandburg. -- Tim Cronin

Providence (4-3, 0-2 CCL Blue) vs. Mount Carmel (6-1, 2-1)

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Gately Stadium

TV: UToo (Ch. 26.2), 11 a.m. Saturday (tape delay)

The breakdown: The Caravan looks for its second win in a row, and first in the league since losing to Loyola Academy. The Celtics will provide a tougher test than St. Laurence, held by Mount Carmel to minus-7 yards offense in a 55-0 whipping. Providence, winless in the Blue, needs an upset to have a good chance at a playoff berth. The Caravan has Jimmy Mickens and Matt Domer to carry the ball, Marko Boricich to pass it, and Christian Searles to catch – and intercept – it. That gives Mount Carmel a big edge. The Caravan won 17-0 last year, but the Celtics have won three of the last five. Mount Carmel leads the overall series 10-5. -- Tim Cronin

 Thornton (3-4, 2-3 SWSC Red) at Lincoln-Way West (6-1, 5-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. today

The breakdown: Lincoln-Way West’s stingy defense has carried the Warriors to the cusp of the SouthWest Suburban Red title. Now Thornton, desperate for a win to keep its playoff hopes alive, visits New Lenox with a three-game losing streak, its longest since a four-game run of defeats in 2007. Thornton must stop back Javier Montalvo, who scored five touchdowns while rushing for 227 yards against Lincoln-Way North last week. JoWahn Brown’s thrown for 494 yards in the last two weeks, but Thornton’s defense has let him down. The Wildcats have Thornridge next week, but that game will mean little if they don’t upset the Warriors. -- Tim Cronin

Rich East (1-6, 1-2 SAC) vs. Bloom Township (4-3, 2-2)

When: Noon Saturday

Where: Bloom Trail High School

The breakdown: There is no looking past the Rockets, who picked up their first win last week over Rich South. Bloom Township just couldn't finish at the end. It hurt itself with penalties and bad timing. Justus Brantley is one the best running backs in the area and he can break for a long one at any time. How well the Blazing Trojans bounce back from a tough 12-7 loss to Crete-Monee will be the difference. Quarterback Kendall McGinnis went down in the third quarter of the Crete game and coach Tony Palombi said he will play only if needed. -- Mike Nieto
