DOLTON | Thornton Fractional North quarterback Davion Sylvester did not complete many passes in Saturday's rainy game against Thornridge.

When he did, thge Meteors junior made them count.

The first two passes Sylvester completed in the second half went for touchdowns, leading the Meteors to an 18-8 win victory over the Falcons.

The win was a Meteors bounce back from last week's disappointing narrow defeat to Kenwood Academy, a loss in which Sylvester missed most of the second half due to leg cramps. Sylvester said he had cramping issues again Saturday against the Falcons, but he managed to play through it and throw for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Sylvester's second-half touchdown passes to Myles Barbee and Nikita Smith Jr. came four minutes apart and gave the visitors an 18-0 lead early in the fourth quarter.

"Last week was a very disappointing loss," Sylvester said, "but we had a good week of practice, just stayed focused and came out with the win."

While Sylvester sparked the Meteors offense with two big-play strikes for points, the defense shut down the Falcons for most of the afternoon. The Meteors held the Falcons to 131 yards in offense, and did not break until Falcons quarterback Antonio Johnson scrambled up the middle for an 18-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

"Throughout the whole week, the coaches just pounded into our heads to contain, contain," Meteors linebacker Cameron Smith said. "Everybody just did what they had to do, and not go for the big play but just wrap guys up and bring them down."

The Falcons (0-2) managed to push the ball inside the red zone one more time in the fourth, but an offensive penalty and a sack by the Meteors' Jeremy Baldwin and Joshua Adams killed the possible scoring drive.

The Falcons were slowed by 84 yards of penalties. The program has now lost 12 consecutive games, going back to a playoff defeat in 2010.

"Today's game got away from us," Thornridge coach Ty Richardson said. "We had a lot of small mistakes we've got to correct, then we'll be all right."

Smith Jr. led the Meteors' rushing attack with 48 yards, and added receiving 55 yards.

Falcons junior Deonta Moses rushed for 52 yards in his first start at running back.
