First Team

Zach Aring, Beecher

Sr., P

Stats: 7-3, 58 IP, 48 H, 68 SO, 1.45 ERA

Scouting report: Aring's arm helped the Bobcats advance to the Class 2A Benedictine Super-Sectional, where they lost to state champion Lisle. He led the area in strikeouts. Aring also hit .296 and was a team leader. He was named to the River Valley Conference team.

Marko Boricich, Mount Carmel

Jr., P

Stats: 8-1, 71 IP, 68 SO, 19 BB, 1.28 ERA

Scouting report: The lefty threw a five-hit shutout against Neuqua Valley in one semifinal of the Class 4A finals. Boricich came up with a big win over St. Rita in the Reavis Sectional final and had good control all year.

Kyle Bumpass, Crete-Monee

Sr., P

Stats: 4-3, 63 2/3 IP, 67 SO, 23 BB, 2.31 ERA

Scouting report: All-Southland Athletic Conference selection and with Craig Quick and Chris Cockle, gave the Warriors a solid pitching staff. Threw over 100 pitches in a complete-game win over Rich Central.

Jeremy Kravetz, Mount Carmel

Sr., P

Stats: 9-3, 79 IP, 16 ER, 48 SO, 16 BB, 1.33 ERA

Scouting report: The Kansas recruit was a workhorse down the stretch as he won three games and saved the Class 4A Reavis Sectional final against St. Rita. He was superb in the Caravan's 2-1 win over Libertyville in the state championship. The lefty used good control and never got rattled on the mound.

Jesse Forestell, Homewood-Flossmoor

So., C

Stats: .485, 49 H, 6 2B, 1 HR, 26 RBIs, .988 fielding pct.

Scouting report: Forestell was an all-SouthWest Suburban Blue pick and led the Vikings in batting average, hits and RBIs. He hit over .500 most of the year and will be one of the area's top players the next two years.

Zachary Turner, T.F. North

Jr., 1B

Stats: .365, 32 H, 9 2B, 1 HR, 19 RBIs, 9 SB

Scouting report: Turner missed the last two weeks of the season with a knee injury, but was one of the Meteors' most productive players. He was a special mention for the South Suburban Blue Conference.

Nick Tanniehill, Seton Academy

Sr., 2B

Stats: .459, .662 slg. pct., 34 H, 7 2B, 4 3B, 25 RBIs, 31 R

Scouting report: Tied the program record for most hits in a season and was the Catholic League Red player of the year in leading the Sting to a record 18 wins and the Catholic Red title. He also threw a no-hitter and was 7-1 with 63 strikeouts.

Brian Seymour, T.F. South

Jr., SS

Stats: .474, 45 H, 8 2B, 1 HR, 30 RBIs, 32 R, 13-15 SB-SBA

Scouting report: Seymour was solid at shortstop and had just eight errors in 121 chances. He was an all-South Suburban Blue pick and led the Rebels in hits.

Brad Bohlen, Marian Catholic

Sr, 3B

Stats: .417, 50 H, 17 2B, 3 3B, 46 RBIs, 28 R

Scouting report: Bohlen tied Scott Baker (1986) for most RBIs by a Spartan in a season. His 50 hits make him just the fourth Marian player to do in a season. He was the clutch hitter for the Spartans. An all-East suburban Catholic Conference selection, Bohlen will play at Northern Kentucky. His 50 hits and 46 RBIs led the area in those categories.

Jason Gasser, Mount Carmel

Sr., OF

Stats: .425, 45 H, 33 RBIs, 9 2B

Scouting report: The Times Player of the Year was the offensive catalyst and leader for the Caravan in their drive to the Class 4A state title. Gasser was the Catholic League Blue Tony Lawless Award winner and recently committed to Northern Illinois. He made tough fly ball look like routine outs due to his nose for the game. His 45 hits led the Caravan.

Tyler Sroczynski, Illiana Christian

Sr., OF

Stats: .514, 38 H, 3 HR, 27 RBIs, .973 slg. pct.

Scouting report: He led the Vikings in batting, hits and RBIs. Sroczynski will play at Grand Valley State and was made the Metro Suburban Conference team.

William Thomas, Seton Academy

Sr., OF

Stats: .459, .716 slg. pct., 34 H, 11 2B, 4 3B, 26 RBIs, 38 R, 27-29 SB-SBA

Scouting report: Thomas was an all-Catholic League Red selection and tied the program record for hits in a season and set the program record for doubles in a season. On the base paths, he stole 27 bases in 29 attempts. He also was 3-3 and struck out 41 in 33 1/3 IP.

Sam Geraci, Illinois Lutheran

Jr., Utility -- P/SS

Stats: 4-1, 34 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 60 SO, 13 BB, 0.20 ERA, .500, 35 H, 10 2B, 3 3B, 3 HR, 23 RBIs, 11-13 SB-SBA

Scouting report: The River Valley Conference player of the year led the Chargers to another successful season. His lone loss was to Grant Park in regionals.

Kemari Simmons, St. Francis de Sales

Jr., Utility --SS/OF/P

Stats: .618, 34 H, 12 2B, 27 RBIs, 8 SB

Scouting report: He was one of the top hitters in the state and tore up pitching. He came through game after game for the Pioneers.

Ronnie Cross, Thornton

Jr., Utility -- P/IF

Stats: .432, 35 H, 7 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 20 RBIs, 23 SB, .642 slg. pct.

Scouting report: Played nearly every infield position and led the Wildcats in hitting, RBIs and slugging percentage. An all-SouthWest suburban Red selection, he was one of the reasons Thornton enjoyed another successful year on the diamond.
