(previous rankings in parentheses, records through Wednesday)
Boys
1. Homewood-Flossmoor 7-0 (1)
A big win over Curie on Sunday shows this team is playing together and is not worried about individual stats. The Vikings play at Lincoln-Way Central tonight.
2. Bloom Township 5-2 (2)
The Blazing Trojans get a tough Rich East team tonight at M'Cann Gym. This is coach Jasper Williams' final year and the team wants to make it a memorable one.
3. Crete-Monee 5-1 (3)
The Warriors lost to Rich East, but have Kankakee tonight and face DuSable Saturday at the Thornton Shootout.
4. Marian Catholic 7-1 (4)
Everybody is getting involved and that is the key. This is not a tall team, but they hustle and play good defense. A big game tonight at Nazareth Academy. Beep. Beep. That Roadrunner is after you.
5. T.F. North 6-1 (NR)
This is a tough week with six games in seven days. The Meteors lost to Marshall on Sunday, then beat Reavis and Benet Academy on Tuesday and Wednesday. This is a tough group and they should get past this test -- then it's finals. Coach Tim Bankston needs lots of chicken soup to fight the flu.
Girls
1. Marian Catholic 10-0 (1)
The Spartans are off to a strong start and have played well. Melanie Ransom stepped up on Sunday in a win over Kenosha Tremper. Ashton Millender has really come on strong. They are off until Dec. 22 at Bishop McNamara, then it's the Montini Tournament.
2. Crete-Monee 11-0 (2)
A pretty impressive start is followed by a big game with Bloom Township on Thursday.
3. Homewood-Flossmoor 7-2 (3)
The Vikings are starting to put it together. If they can play fundamental basketball, they could really get on a roll.
4. Bloom Township 7-3 (4)
Bria Gaines is unstoppable and Kat Strong is really doing a great job distributing the ball.
5. Seton Academy 8-4 (5)
Desiree Jackson is a force underneath and the Sting has several players who can score.
