Host Marian Catholic held off a stubborn Lincoln-Way East boys basketball team as it beat the Griffins 53-40 in one semifinal of the Class 4A Marian Catholic Regional on Tuesday.
The Spartans (26-3) will take on the winner of today's Crete-Monee vs. Thornton contest on Friday for the regional championship.
Marian used a 12-0 second-quarter run to take command.
Tyler Ulis scored 20 points with four assists, three rebounds and two steals to lead Marian to its sixth-straight win. He became the fourth Spartan to score more than 600 points in a season (612). Cedrick Middleton totaled an all-time best 623 in 2002-03.
Ki-Jana Crawford chipped in 11 points for Marian, while John Oliver finished with seven points. T.J. Parham grabbed five rebounds and Josh Cohn had out three assists.
The Griffins (10-17) pulled within four on a couple occasions early in the fourth quarter, but Ulis keyed a 9-0 Spartan run to seal the verdict.
Postponement: Tuesday's Class 4A Sandburg regional semifinal boys basketball game between between Homewood-Flossmoor and Sandburg was postponed due to the weather.
It will be played at 7:30 p.m. today.
