Thornton defensive back Jalen Banks has committed to Vanderbilt, Thornton football coach Bill Mosel confirmed.
Mosel said Banks committed on his first visit to the Nashville, Tenn., school.
"I think it's a great fit for Jalen to play in the SEC and at that level," Mosel said. "He is real strong academically, so he will fit in real well with Vanderbilt."
Comcast SportsNet Chicago to air playoff pairings: In conjunction with the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and the IHSA’s production partner, PlayOn! Sports, Comcast SportNet Chicago will broadcast the "IHSA Football Playoff Pairing Release Show" 8-10 p.m. Saturday.
The show will feature first-round matchups for all eight classes.
Comcast SportsNet will also televise all eight state championships from the University of Illinois' Memorial Stadium on Nov. 23-24.
Baseball
Sroczynski commits: Illiana Christian's Tyler Sroczynski committed to Grand Valley State.
Last season, Sroczynski batted .413 with 40 hits, eight doubles and 20 RBIs. He had a .964 fielding percentage in helping lead the Vikings to the Class 3A T.F. North Regional final, where they lost to eventual state champion Marian Catholic.
Sroczynski was a Times second team all-area selection in 2012.

Bloom Twp. 3, Shepard 0: The Blazing Trojans blanked the Astros and will play Lincoln-Way East at 11 a.m. Saturday for the championship.
Class 3A Andrew Regional
Homewood-Flossmoor 3, Andrew 2 (PK): The Vikings stunned the Thuderbolts on penalty kicks in one semifinal of the Class 3A Andrew Regional.
Class 2A Lemont Regional
Washington 2, Lemont 1: The Patriots beat the host Indians for the first time in three postseason tries and will face Bremen on Friday for the regional championship.
Arturo Aupont scored the game-winner with about 10 minutes left as Washington came back from a 1-0 deficit.
Rafael Alarcon tied 1-1 with an assist from Jimmy Canedo. Miguel Delgado had four saves.
Girls Volleyball
Beecher 25-25, Illinois Lutheran 21-11:
Heather Buchmeier's three aces, 10 kills and eight digs led the Ladycats (20-8, 11-0) as they clinched the River Valley Conference title.
Savannah Soppet had three aces and eight kills. Katie Howard had 15 digs and Katie Wilkoz also had three aces to go with 24 assists.
Lincoln-Way Central 25-25, Homewood-Flossmoor 15-14: Kaitlyn Shereyk's seven kills and Kassie Wallace's 13 assists led the Vikings (23-11 overall) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue loss.
Girls Swimming
Shepard 123, Crete-Monee 46: The Warriors got wins from Lauren Carlos (100-yard butterfly) and Allison Carlos (500 freestyle).
