More than six potential Division I boys basketball players will be at Bowman Academy for the second annual Black Friday Shootout, with five games scheduled.
Indianapolis Tindley will open against 21st Century at 1:30 p.m.; Indianapolis Marshall will play Hammond at 3 p.m.; Lawrence Central will play Griffith at 4:30 p.m.; Horizon Christian will play West Side at 6 p.m.
And defending Class 2A state champion Bowman Academy will play Indianapolis Tech at 7:30, with Kentucky-bound Mr. Basketball candidate Trey Lyles.
"It's going to be a great event with a lot of great talent," Bowman coach Marvin Rea said. "We're excited to have teams from all over the region going up against some of the state's best teams." — Steve Hanlon
Former Bulldog earns scholarship: Sasha Cucuz recently signed her national letter of intent to play Division I volleyball at the University of New Hampshire of the American East Conference.
“I’m really happy. It’s a great school and it’s a great program,” said the 6-foot-1 Cucuz, who began her prep career at Crown Point.
The daughter of former Lake Central basketball standout Bo Cucuz moved to Ohio with her family as a sophomore.

Oh, what a night: Munster's Miranda Mihalic scored 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the Mustangs' 84-76 win over Bowman Academy on Monday. Munster coach Matt Backs believes the number is very close to the school record for points, but he isn't 100 percent sure.
There were 52 fouls called in the game and Munster was 39-of-47 from the line. — Steve Hanlon
A distant Times reader: Indianapolis Cathedral football coach Rick Streiff was talking about The Times at Monday's IHSAA state press conference. He was laughing about a column in The Times that said his Irish would win the Class 5A state championship and then get bumped up to Class 8A, which doesn't exist.
