The Region had 11 players and one coach selected for the 44th annual North-South All-Star football game on July 16 at Indianapolis North Central High School.
The two teams that went the furthest in the playoffs, Class 4A state runner-up Lowell and Class 5A regional winner Merrillville, were the only two schools in Northwest Indiana with multiple players named to the team.
Lowell's Joe Bell (DE) and Brandon Grubbe (RB) were selected by the Indiana Football Coaches Association. Grubbe was The Times Offensive Player of the Year after a career that included two state berths and the Region's all-time record for rushing yards.
Times Defensive Player of the year James Travis (DE) and Merrillville teammate Sanchez Tate (LB) also were picked as North All-Stars.
The other local players on the team will be Michigan City's Ryan Isaac (DL), Morton's Dominique Peterson (DB), Valparaiso's Michael Perkins (RB), LaPorte's Trevor Sales (OL), Wheeler's Colin Gallagher (OL), Chesterton's David Raffin (OL) and Andrean's P.J. Mason (TE).
Andrean coach Phil Mason also was selected to be a member of the North's coaching staff.
