RUSHVILLE | The fact that the Junior All-Star team beat the Indiana All-Stars 92-78 on Wednesday night was newsworthy. But what Lew Wallace junior Branden Dawson said after the game at Rushville High School was even more so.
The reigning Times Player of the Year said he isn't sure where he will play basketball next season.
"I really don't know," Dawson said after scoring six points, grabbing seven rebounds, taking three steals and getting two blocks. "I'm looking for the best situation in everything for me right now. It's either or. It's an in-between situation.
"My mom told me she is behind whatever decision I make."
Dawson said he would like to stay in the Region, but only time will tell. He plans on visiting Michigan State and Georgetown in July, and he'll also be attending Purdue's team camp.
"I'd like to stay at home and compete for the Mr. Basketball," Dawson said. "We'll just have to see what happens."
Dawson said his teammates benefited from the extra two days of practice after getting blown out by the Seniors on Monday night in Fort Wayne. The offense was much smoother and this talented junior class looked like what many thought.
Five juniors were in double-figure scoring, led by Marquis Teague's 15 points.
"We came out strong and played as a team," Dawson said. "On Monday it was one pass and a shot. We shared the ball (Wednesday night). We have a good team.
The seniors blew us out. We came in here tonight with a chip on our shoulder."
Bowman Academy guard Tyrae Robinson decided to play with his Indiana All-Star teammates instead of walking the line with the first graduating class in the school's history. He did not disappoint. Robinson scored five points with two assists and two steals.
"I wanted to be at graduation and walking the line with my teammates and classmates, but making the Indiana All-Star team is a big deal," Robinson said. "I committed to play with this team so I had to be down here. We had an off night. We got to get back at them at practice."
E.C. Central's Michael Harris scored three points with three rebounds and two assists. South Central's Jake Kitchell had four rebounds in the loss.
The Indiana All-Stars will take on Kentucky on Friday night in Louisville.
