HOBART | After two straight losses by a single point, No. 9 Munster finally got 10-7 win over Hobart on Friday.
"We've been snake-bit the last couple weeks," Munster coach Leroy Marsh said. "I'm very proud of our kids for hanging in there."
On Munster's second play, Taylor Kimes rushed 74 yards for the Mustangs' only touchdown.
In the second quarter, Hobart tied it when sophomore quarterback Sam Kosich pulled the ball out of his fullback's hands at the last possible moment, took the ball around the other side and scampered 80 yards untouched for the TD. The Brickies gained 213 yards on the ground in the first half and only 6 in the second.
"We made errors. We made mistakes," Hobart coach Wally McCormack said. "We need to eliminate those things. At some point, you've got to make a play."
"We just made some adjustments (at halftime)" Marsh said. "They did some nice things in the first half and we just did adjust to them very well. So, we changed some things at halftime."
Hobart (1-6, 0-5) missed another opportunity to score when Steve Karataglidis missed a 26-yard field goal attempt with less than a minute remaining in the half.
"We didn't play good enough to win," McCormack said. "It's been like this for a month. We have flashes, but we're not consistent enough to get things done."
Munster (5-2, 3-1) got a boost from kicker Ian Svoboda in the third quarter. The senior kicked a 27-yarder on his second attempt of the season.
Joshua Lukoshus, who has started at safety for the Mustangs, regained his job at quarterback. Marsh said the senior has been nursing an injury. Lukoshus finished the game 7-of-16 for 123 yards, and he rushed four times for 11 yards.
