HIGHLAND | Freshman Cindy McInerney knows this is the kind of game that can give Times No. 3 Griffith confidence.
McInerney teamed up with Lauren Hansen to score two goals apiece, pacing the Panthers in a 4-0 shutout over No. 1 Highland (14-3-2, 4-2).
The win gives the Panthers (13-1-1, 5-1) a share of the NCC title with Kankakee Valley.
"I try to make the best of every minute out there," McInerney said. "Highland and Griffith have always been rivals, and it's a great thing to be able to shut them out."
McInerney gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead by sending a cross-shot into the left side of the goal with 28:31 left in the game. She also put the Panthers on the board in the 11th minute, sending a shot into the right corner of the goal past a diving Karly Wolfe.
Griffith coach Ric Gonzalez was impressed with his team's offensive pressure, especially with McInerney's.
"Cindy is a freshman, and I've trying to find a spot for her (up front)," he said. "She really outperformed herself tonight."
