Times Indiana Boys Basketball Top 10
Boys Basketball Top 10
(Records through Wednesday; last week's rankings in parentheses. NR = not ranked.)
1. Bowman Academy (1) 8-0
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, the Eagles were flying and ready to pounce. The fans down in Indy were singing "Hey, hey," admiring the standouts coached by Marvin Rea.
2. Munster (3) 7-0
The Mustangs were also singing in the state capital. Against Cathedral the 'Stangs stockings were nothing but full. Stolarz' shooting got Munster on a roll, then the Mustangs came home to give L.C. some coal.
3. Valparaiso (2) (7-0)
Saint Otis is enjoying his early-winter nap, as his Vikings' bright noses light up the state map. The talent is there and the style he is mix'n, now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen, on Martin, on Karp, on Hummel and Blitzen.
4. Merrillville (4) 7-0
With a little old driver the Pirates are lively and quick, most know in a moment that the purple talent is real thick. More rapid than Eagles his coursers they came, so Coach East started practice and calling them by their name.
5. Lew Wallace (6) 5-1
Coach Naddy is shining a new light o'er the town, he and his Hornets are still wearing the Steel crown. The Hornets are hanging bright lights on their tree, and the leader is a kid named Branden with an "e."
6. E.C. Central (5) (4-1)
The Cards aren't a mystery, Abe Brown's club is not a riddle, take away the Munster loss which tasted like peanut brittle. All but that loss has been like homemade cookies on the bake, but Munster, oh Munster, just was fruitcake.
7. Boone Grove (NR) (5-2)
The Wolves, oh the Wolves, are running through the snow, hearing Saint Matt keep singing "Ho, ho and ho." The solos are loud when you turn up the amps, Boone's went to 11 as the South County champs.
8. Bishop Noll (8) (7-0)
The Warriors were hoop'n, they also were jammin', there's no doubt the Institute's the best team in Hammond. But the Polar Express must've been chuggin', pluggin' and chasin' when the team needed OT to handle Lake Station.
9. Hanover Central (NR) (6-1)
Take away the loss against Crown Point on the road, and the town of Cedar Lake would be ready to explode. The gingerbread man's dancing and the stage has a rocker, so who is this guy who is named Bollenbacher?
10. LaPorte (NR) (6-2)
When this team is hot it's almost like a geyser, full of good cheer and a bus load of Slicers. This team is quite good and much more than all right, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
On the bubble: Crown Point (3-4), Griffith (4-1), Lake Central (3-3), Morgan Twp. (7-1), Rensselaer (5-1), Wheeler (5-1).
