Bearcats shut out Ingots to remain undefeated
UNION TWP. | Wheeler continued its high-scoring luxury cruise through the Greater South Shore Conference on Friday night.
This week's victim was River Forest.
The Times No. 7 Bearcats got their top-ranked offense rolling early and kept it going often as their undefeated season remained intact with a 57-0 conference win over the Ingots.
Wheeler coach Dan Klimczak has told his team repeatedly to forget about its last win in order to prepare for the next, telling his players each week they reset to a 0-0 record. He said this has helped the Bearcats (6-0, 4-0) stay fresh and motivated in the midst of so many blowout wins.
"We've had to avoid letdowns and the guys are focused on staying sharp," Klimczak said. "That's what we need to do to accomplish our team goals."
River Forest (1-5, 1-3) is in the midst of a tough stretch that has been made more difficult by numerous injuries. Including the loss against Wheeler, the Ingots have been outscored 154-0 in their last three games.
In a somewhat staggering stat that conveys the Bearcats' dominance, Wheeler outgained River Forest 502 to 14.
River Forest coach Jeff Bean said a lack of depth has made it difficult to make up for the injuries his team has suffered.
"We're still running into some problems (with injuries)," he said. "Five guys didn't dress (Friday night) and Wheeler executed at 110 percent."
