CROWN POINT | It's a familiar feeling for Lake Central coach Jereme Rainwater, but it just keeps getting sweeter.
Behind a balanced offense and strong play from goalkeeper Tony Halterman, the Indians cruised to their sixth straight sectional title with a 6-1 victory over Crown Point.
"Every year, you talk about how much it means to you to win that sectional," Rainwater said. "They feel better every time. It's just outstanding. It's just a little payback for all the hard work (the kids) put in during the offseason."
Crown Point (7-8-1) scored first to spark a little momentum, but Lake Central quickly responded with two first-half goals to take a 2-1 lead at halftime.
"We did a lot of strength training in the offseason and this is the first year we implemented it," Rainwater said. "It just seems like our guys have legs for longer than any team we play. We're deep, and being able to make substitutions in the first half meant that we were going to have legs in the second half."
Crown Point coach Jeff Fairbairn thought the first goal gave his players confidence in the first half.
"I thought that did," he said. "I think the first time we played them (on Monday), our guys thought they were a better team than us and getting a goal up on them today would show that we can hang with them."
Lake Central (16-3) poured it on the Bulldogs in the second half, scoring four goals to end any threat of a Crown Point comeback.
Six different players scored goals for the Indians in the game, something that has been a strength for L.C. lately.
"Everybody that we have on the attack is a threat," Rainwater said.
