Michael Barber was medalist with a 36 as the Beecher boys golf team opened its season with a 164-174 win over Reed-Custer on Monday afternoon at Cardinal Creek.
Josh Hollis shot a 38, while Austin Wilson had a 42 and Martin Gafney a 48.

Kick-Off Classic will honor Down Syndrome and special needs children: The High School Football Kick-Off Classic presented by Jewel-Osco will honor Down Syndrome Awareness and Special Needs Children. The organizations "Gigi's Playhouse" and "I Am Who I Am" will be honored throughout the day’s activities.
The classic will be Aug. 31 at Soldier Field with three prep games and one college game.
The event was announced Monday by the chairman of the committee and Mount Carmel football coach Frank Lenti.
"Our goal is to give the opportunity of playing in Soldier Field to Chicago-area student athletes while giving their families and high school football fans across the metropolitan area an opportunity to see quality football games and experience the thrill of being in Soldier Field,” Lenti said in a news release. "These games are a result of a collaboration of efforts between the Chicago Catholic League, Mickey Pruitt of the Chicago Public League and Tim LeFevour, the General Manager of Soldier Field. We have also had great support from the staff of SMG, Mike Kelly of the Chicago Park District, as well as Mayor (Rahm) Emanuel".
Class 8A state champion Mount Carmel will start the day's action as it takes on St. Patrick at 10 a.m., followed by De La Salle and Wendell Phillips at 1 p.m.
At 4 p.m., Ave Maria University (Fla.) and Robert Morris University will play. Ave Maria is coached by former Mount Carmel player and assistant coach Marty Quinn.
St. Rita and Marist will conclude the day with a 7 p.m. game.
Tickets for the games will be available at the participating schools as well as available at the stadium on the event day at Gate 10.
