The Times No. 1 Marian Catholic boys basketball team had little trouble in beating the host J-Hawks 67-41 in the afternoon and then topping Belvidere 64-51 on Monday in the Rockford Jefferson Martin Luther King Tournament.
Tyler Ulis had 39 points on the day, including 24 in the win against Belvidere. Ki-Jana Crawford had 11 as Marian (20-2) reached 20 wins for the third time in the program's history. Marian led 46-34 when it closed out the third quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 50-34 lead into the fourth quarter. Ulis also had six rebounds, four assists and five steals.
Ulis had 15 points and T.J. Parham had 13 in the win over Jefferson.
Marian went on a 22-0 first-half run to put the game away.
Ulis added four assists and three rebounds for the Spartans (19-2). Parham had three rebounds.
Kevin Phillips had nine points and John Oliver had eight.
Bloom Township 72, Danvillle 38: Johnny Griffin had 10 points and eight rebounds, and James Coleman had 14 points to lead the No. 2 Blazing Trojans (15-4) to the win at the Joliet Martin Luther King Day of Hoops.
Eleven players scored for Bloom Township.
Thornridge 56, South Shore 52: Austin Dunbar and Darion Robinson each had double-doubles to lead the Falcons (6-12) to the win at South Suburban College.
Dunbar had 20 points and 16 rebounds, while Robinson had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Antonio Woods added 13 points.
North Chicago 59, T.F. North 57: D.J. Deere's 17 points and Greg McClain's 16 led the No. 3 Meteors (16-5) in their loss at Whitney Young.
Marquis Todd had seven rebounds and McClain added five assists.
Joliet West 68, Crete-Monee 63: Tyler Williams and Mark Conner combined to score 41 points, but The Times No. 5 Warriors (14-5) fell at the Joliet Martin Luther King Day of Hoops.
Williams had 31 points, while Conner had 20.
The Crete Monee Warriors were defeated by Joliet West 68-63. The Warriors were led by Tyler Williams with 21 points and Mark Conner with 20. They are now 14-5 and 2-3 in conference.
Girls Basketball
Illinois Lutheran 50, Donovan 41: Janelle Heyn had a double-double as she hit six 3-pointers and finished with 29 points and 11 steals to lead the Chargers (5-13, 2-7) to the River valley Conference win.
Kassie Kernagis, Heyn and Caroline Kuether had eight rebounds each.
Thornwood 47, Curie 30: Breneka Walker's 13 led the No. 5 Thunderbirds past the Condors at South Suburban College.
