Brooke Renner recorded eight kills, while Dani Ellis led the way defensively with 13 digs as Times No. 5 Lake Central recorded a 25-21, 25-23, 25-14 over Lowell in Monday girls volleyball action.

Joselyne Bobos and Meagan Fitzgerald each had four kills for Lowell.

Portage 23-25-25-22-15, Highland 25-15-19-25-10: Mariah Wright wracked up 19 kills and 27 digs for the Indians (11-10). Portage's Josi Auksel (seven blocks) and Alexa Ciesielski each registered 11 kills, while Lauren Winicky set 26 assists.

Bishop Noll 25-25-25, Morton 11-17-7: Carly Cappello led the Warriors (15-4) with 21 kills to easily fend off the Governors.

Victory Christian 25-25-25, Portage Christian 13-7-9: Gabby Carlson notched 10 kills and Hannah Kroll served six aces in the Lions' sweep. Elly Smith recorded four aces and 18 assists for Victory Christian.

Calumet Christian 25-25-25, Westville 11-6-16: Ally Rohn's 21 kills paced Calumet Christian and Cassie Obinger had 28 assists. Kaylie Obinger notched 18 digs for the Patriots.

 

Samantha Albers picked up five kills and three aces in the Blackhawks' loss.

Merrillville 25-25-15, Wheeler 17-12-24: Jaz Talley hit nine kills and Myranda Harris (20 digs) posted eight to lead the Pirates past the Bearcats. Riana Todd recorded 27 assists and Maya Griffin scored seven aces for Merrillville.

Boys soccer

Andrean 4, Wheeler 0: Lucas Nowesnick, Jose Angulo, Mike Gore and Dan Adair all scored goals for the 59ers.

Bishop Noll 1, Griffith 0: Aaron Garza scored Noll's lone goal in the narrow win.

Boone Grove 5, Westville 1: Austin Aguilera notched two goals to lead the No. 4 Wolves over the Blackhawks.

Covenant Christian 3, Kankakee Valley 2: Justin Handtke scored all of the Knights' goals in the narrow win over the Kougars.

Derik Tesh and Tyler Montgomery scored for K.V.

Hanover Central 3, Lowell 0: Alec Nirtaut scored two goals and recorded one assist, while Isaac Cortez scored the Wildcats other goal.

Lowell's Alex Rudek made 15 saves.

Rensselaer 4, Hobart 1: Anjel Clemete netted two goals to lead the Bombers to the win.

Adrian Cantos got Hobart's lone goal.

Victory Christian 0, Portage Christian 0: Evan Duey made two stops for the Lions in their scoreless tie.

Girls soccer

Kouts 3, Westville 0: Maranda Birmingham assisted on two goals to spark the Fillies over the Blackhawks. Tiffany Tratar made one save to secure the shutout.

Hebron 1, Culver 1: Rachel Pauer scored while Shelby Keehn and Brittany Botts combined for 21 saves in the Hawks' tie with the Cavaliers.

Marquette Catholic 3, Clark 2: Maggie Mellen did all the scoring for the Blazers as they edged the Pioneers.

K.V.-Chesterton game canceled: Kankakee Valley's match with Chesterton has been canceled. Due to last Thursday's inclement weather, the match was originally postponed. Each team is loaded with games the next two weeks, so no makeup date could be set.

Boys tennis

LaPorte 4, New Prairie 1: Michael Varda led the No. 6 Slicers with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. LaPorte also picked up its other three points with straight-set victories.

Andrean 3, Calumet 2: The 59ers (7-6) swept the singles in their win over the Warriors (4-7).

Jake Brown, Michael Kinasiewicz and Anthony Zaleski won for Andrean.

Calumet's Michael Rodriguez and Daniel Williams, and Robert Huff and Tommie Cook won in doubles.

Marquette 4, Michigan City 1: Carter and Hunter Moldenhauer won their respective No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches in straight sets, leading the Blazers over the Wolves. Carter won 6-0, 6-2, while Hunter won 6-0, 6-1.

Will Harber and Nick Sebert picked up the Wolves' lone point with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.

Crown Point 4, Kankakee Valley 1: Lance Noerenberg and Anthony Kendall defeated their opponents at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, while both of the Bulldogs' doubles teams earned wins.

Luke Sanderson earned K.V.'s lone win at No. 1 singles.

Morton 4, E.C. Central 1: Tyler Schramm and Patrick McCormack claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles for the Governors, who had both doubles teams win as well.

Abraham Garcia posted E.C. Central's win at No. 2 singles.

Prep football

Portage homecoming tickets go on sale Wednesday: Tickets for Portage's homecoming football game against Chesterton go on sale beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the bookstore. Sales run until 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Cost is $5. Tickets at the game are $6. The game is at 7 p.m. Friday.
