CROWN POINT | Lake Central's best defense was a good offense.
The Times No. 1 Indians' offense was clicking all night as L.C. blanked No. 10 Crown Point 6-0, capturing the DAC title in the process. The Indians recorded 24 shots and scored five goals in the second half.
"We knew the DAC was on the line," L.C. coach Jereme Rainwater said. "This is something that the boys wanted. They came out in the second half and really worked hard to make it happen."
Crown Point goalkeeper Christian Lomeli received his fair share of work in the first half, saving nine Lake Central shots. The Indians (14-3, 7-0) recorded 13 shots in the first half, but only one of those came to fruition as Jake Lecea knocked in a header off a feed from Cody Barnes to make it 1-0 with 9:06 remaining.
Four different players scored for the Indians in the second half.
"It was nice to see scoring come from a lot of different areas," Rainwater said. "That's why it's hard to defend us sometimes because we can bring it from a lot of different areas. All of our guys really worked hard tonight."
Crown Point (6-7-1, 3-4) mustered just seven shots in the game.
"Our coaches talked to us about pressuring the ball quickly after we lose the ball," Lecea said. "This is a real boost to our confidence."
Crown Point coach Jeff Fairbairn noticed frustration setting in his Bulldogs in the second half.
"L.C. is a great team, and I think we looked at them a little like 'Well, I don't know if we can play with them,'" he said. "We let little things get us down and bother us, which affects the way we play."
