The Mount Carmel boys bowling team finished second at the Lindblom Sectional at Skyway Bowl on Saturday, earning their way to a state finals berth.
The state meet is Friday and Saturday at St. Clair Bowl in O'Fallon.
The appearance will be the first in 10 years for the Caravan. Brooks Prep won the team title, and Mount Carmel finished with 5,912 pins, 28 behind team champion Brooks College Prep.
"Our first game was tough, we shot an 896," Caravan coach Steve Gorches said. "I told the kids, 'If this is the worst we'll bowl today, then we will make state,' and we qualified."
Mount Carmel's Ryan Hernandez finished third overall with a six-game score of 1,301 and a high game of 255. Mike Stepanovich had an 1,181.
Brooks' Jose Ledesma was the individual winner with a 1,399, while Phil Ledesma was second with a 1,379.
The 2003 Mount Carmel team finished third in the sectional, then reached the state meet when the second-place team was disqualified for Illinois High School Association rule violations.
Girls Bowling
Minooka Invitational: T.F. South's Lauren Hart was eighth overall (1,158 pins) and the Rebels were fifth in the team standings (5,169).
Oswego East was the team winner with 5,725. Oswego's Cheyanne Valdez was the individual winner with 1,256.
South's Kayla Garcia was 26th (1,053) and Charity Bickom was 31st (1,028).
Boys Basketball
Marian Catholic 67, Belvidere North 54: Tyler Ulis scored 17 points to lead the No. 1 Spartans (18-2) to a win in the Rockford Jefferson MLK Tournament.
T.J. Parham added 11 points for Marian Catholic.
Marian Catholic 65, Fenton 35: Marian Catholic used a 14-0 run in the first half and an 11-0 run in the second half to pull away from Fenton in the Rockford Jefferson MLK Tournament.
Tyler Ulis led the Spartans with 12 points, while Ki-Jana Crawford and Josh Cohn added 11 points apiece.
Illinois Lutheran 65, Iroquois West 63: Mack Newson hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left to give the Chargers (11-5) the lead.
Iroquois West missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds.
Newson finished with 26 points, including four 3s. Austin Wood had 17 points.
Iroquois West made 11 3-pointers and were led in scoring by Keaton Zirkle (21 points) and Austin Zirkle (19 points).
Girls Basketball
Marian Catholic 89, South Bend Washington 64: Ashton Millender lit it up with 28 points, including eight 3-pointers to lead the No. 1 Spartans (19-1) to the road win over the Panthers.
Teniya Page had 10 points and 12 assists, while Kauai Bradley had 12 rebounds. Briana Narcissi had four steals.
St. Louis Incarnate Word (Mo.) 88, Bloom Twp. 55: Bria Gaines' 23 points led the No. 2 Blazing Trojans (15-5) in a road loss.
