Andrean pitchers Matt DeSomer and Jim Skiff combined for 17 strikeouts in 13 innings, leading to a pair of baseball wins Saturday for the Times No. 1 59ers.
DeSomer had nine strikeouts in a complete-game 3-1 win over Hamilton Southeastern. He added three RBIs in a 7-1 victory over Belmont.
Skiff had eight strikeouts in six innings against the Braves. Nick Podkul, Jeremy Wright and Jeremy Briggs each had RBIs in the win over the Royals.
Hammond Academy 8, Gavit 5: Xavier Reillo went 2-for-3 with a double and got the win, pitching five innings with three strikeouts.
Chris Gomez drove in two runs for the Gladiators (1-9).
Kankakee Valley 4, LaCrosse 1: Austin Brewster scored the go-ahead run on a collision at home plate, suffering a broken left leg that delayed the game for 45 minutes. Brewster reached base in both of his plate appearances.
K.V. coach Doug Greenlee picked up his 499th career win.
Boone Grove 10, E.C. Central 2: Jake Gholston and Dean Hill each had two doubles as the No. 7 Wolves (11-2) defeated the Cardinals. Chuck Kidd (2-0) allowed four hits over six innings with seven strikeouts to pick up the win, while Cody Poynter had four stolen bases.
Valparaiso 5-4, Warsaw 8-0: Michael Jindra allowed four hits over 5 2/3 innings to pick up the victory as the Vikings (6-4) split a doubleheader with the Tigers. Ethan Lehnen and Jeff Holmes each doubled in the win, while CJ Gear had two RBIs.
Valpo's Stephen Simms had a double, home run and two RBIs in the loss.
Wabash 9, Hebron 6: Mike Mikulich was 4-for-4 with two runs scored in the Hawks’ loss. Bryce Hanaway, Zac Hernandez and Kyle Joyce (two RBIs) all doubled for Hebron.
Hebron 13, Tri-Central 3 (5 inn.): Kyle Joyce was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs to help the Hawks pick up the win. Jason Reick was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Stephen Doelling allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts for the victory.
Clark 3-10, Gavit 1-4: Valarie Ruiz struck out seven in a complete-game effort to give the Pioneers the win in the first game of a Great Lakes Athletic Conference doubleheader.
In the second game, Andrea Zamora belted a two-run home run to lead the attack for the Pioneers (8-1, 3-1).
Lake Central 5, Avon 0: Lily Del Toro and Anabel Karberg combined to pitch a shutout at Carmel. Melanie Pabon drove in two runs for the Times No. 3 Indians.
Lake Central 5, Carmel 2: Aspyn Novak went 2-for-2 with two runs and Liz Seymour drove in one run for the Indians (15-6).
Valparaiso 10, Merrillville 0 (6 inn.): Evann Grabow tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts to help the host Vikings pick up a Duneland Athletic Conference win over the Pirates. Molly Grant and Kennedy Minko added doubles for Valparaiso.
Mishawaka 7, Valparaiso 0: The Vikings managed just two hits in a loss to the Cavemen.
Kokomo Relays: Troy Grady won the 110-meter high hurdles, Daniel Walters the 3,200 and Mitch Kessler the shot put as Crown Point took the team title with 134 points. The Bulldogs won six events.
