Chesterton wrestlers had three champions and added one-runner up-finish as it scored 211 1/2 points for second place out of 32 teams Saturday in the Al Smith Invitational at Mishawaka.

No. 2 ranked Cathedral won the event with 233.

Cade Girgentie (182 pounds), Lucas Davison (195) and Eli Pokorney (285) took home first-place finishes for the Trojans. Diego Lemley was runner-up at 160.

Merrillville and Hobart placed ninth and 10th, respectively. Martin Cruz won at 106 for the Pirates. Zack Fattore placed first at 170 for the Brickies. Tylor Triana added a runner-up at 120 for Hobart.

Andres Moreno won at 113 for Lowell. Munster's Caleb Thomas was runner-up at 220.

LaPorte (15th place), Calumet (19th), Lake Central (20th), Lowell (21st) and Munster (30th) rounded out the other local team scorers.

Brecksville Invitational Holiday Tournament: Portage took second out of 48 teams in Ohio by scoring 173.5 points. Detroit Central Catholic won the event with 200.

Jacob Moran (106) and Kasper McIntosh (145) led the Indians with second-place finishes. D.J. Washington Jr. (152) added a third-place result. Colin Poynter (126) and Jacob Bondon (195) placed sixth. Ricky Hegedus (113) and Kris Rumph (138) each took seventh.

Girls basketball

Morgan Twp. 59, Boone Grove 51: Sahara Bee scored a team-high 19 points and racked up 17 rebounds as the Cherokees (10-5, 3-1) handed the Times No. 7 Wolves (14-2, 5-1) their first Porter County Conference loss of the season.

Emma O'Brien (16) and Kelsi Lemmons (11) were both in double figures for Morgan. Talia Bee added nine points.

Angela Casanova had 14 points to lead Boone Grove. Madie Pfister chipped in 13 and Rachel Wilkening had 11.

Northridge Tournament: No. 4 Lake Central fell in overtime to Northridge 47-39 in the first-place game.

Taiylour Kirkwood hit a pair of 3s and scored 11 to lead the Indians (12-5). Sara Zabrecky added nine points.

L.C. defeated Columbia City 43-21 in an earlier pool play game behind 10 points from Lauren Smolen. Lauren Ladowski added nine and Kirkwood eight.

Alexis Switzer scored 20 points, but Portage lost 52-51 to NorthWood in the third-place game.

Serena Flanagan added nine points for the Indians (7-9).

Earlier, Portage defeated Andrean 60-34 in pool play. Layla Melendez had 15 points. Bonnie Clancy had 11 and Kaitie Clasen had 10.

Plainfield Tournament: No. 1 Marquette Catholic lost 48-37 to Plainfield in the title game.

Emma Nolan tallied 16 points to lead the Blazers (14-2). Sophia Nolan added 12.

Marquette defeated Roncalli 53-45 in the earlier semifinal behind 22 points from Emma Nolan. Sophia Nolan added 10 points. Emmery Joseph also notched her 400th career assist.
