Depth made the difference for the Calumet wrestling team in Saturday's Greater South Shore Conference tournament.

The Warriors won just two weight classes — Cody Snook at 160 pounds and James Lewis at 220 -- but breezed to a title repeat with 265.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Griffith (201).

River Forest posted the most champions with four — Javier Bugla (132), Zachary Yost (138), Zane Yost (152) and Bradley Groover (182) — in finishing third (195). Wheeler won three weight classes with Gio Diaz (106), Jose Diaz (113) and Trey Buehler (170).

Hebron's Ewan Donovan topped Calimet's A.J. Fowler 10-6 in the 195, reversing a loss by pin at the Lake County tourney. Other champions were: Mac Magiera (Boone Grove, 120); Jared Stiles (Lake Station, 132); Cole Cervantes (Griffith, 145) and Nick Krieger (Whiting, 285).

Boys basketball

Marquette Catholic 68, Bishop McNamara 60: Colin Kenney scored a team-high 20 points for the Blazers (5-10) as they drilled nine 3-pointers.

Buddy Jaffee hit three 3s and had 19 for Marquette. Joe Andershock and Tommy Gotsch each hit a pair of 3s, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Covenant Christian 68, South Bend Career Academy 55: Andrew Ingram poured in 27 points for the Knights (13-1) who held off a fourth-quarter rally to earn the victory.

Chris Beezhold scored 16 points for Covenant Christian. Daniel VanKley added eight.

Hebron 50, Lake Station 44: Carson Roeske scored 20 points and Ethan Drook hit four 3-pointers as the Hawks (4-4) topped the host Eagles (9-5).

Plymouth 61, LaPorte 45: Garrott Ott-Large scored 13 points for the Slicers (4-8) in the loss to Pilgrims.

Tri-County 70, LaCrosse 39: Wes Brust had 10 points for the Tigers (2-8) as they fell to the Cavaliers.

Girls basketball

Covenant Christian 60, Calumet Christian 33: Maria Nanninga scored 18 points and had six rebounds in a win for the Knights (9-9).

Leanna Buiter added 10 points for Covenant Christian. Ashley Flores dished out six assists.

Hanover Central 55, Griffith 40: Amanda Schreiber scored 18 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals for the Wildcats (7-12, 4-2) in a Greater South Shore Conference win.

Sarah Spangler added 14 points for Hanover Central. Julie Bartoszek scored nine.

Marquette Catholic 60, Bishop McNamara 32: Sophia Nolan posted 24 points as the Times No. 1 Blazers (15-2) returned to action with a decisive win.

Emma Nolan scored 20 points for Marquette.

Whiting 49, Wheeler 16: Emily Balcazar hit three 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead the Oilers (10-9, 5-1) as they jumped out to an 18-0 first quarter lead in a Greater South Shore Conference victory.

Jenna Mercer added nine points for Whiting. Abby Toth chipped in seven.

Bishop Noll 87, River Forest 17: Courtney Blakely scored 17 points, dished out nine assists and racked up seven steals for the Warriors (12-6, 6-0) in a Greater South Shore Conference rout.

Rose Fuentes had 15 points and five rebounds for Noll. Paris Harris had 13 points.

Gymnastics

Viking Invite: State-ranked No. 2 and host Valparaiso won its six-team meet with a score of 110.

Rachel Moneta won all-around (37.275) to lead the Vikings. She was first on floor exercise (9.55), vault (9.425) and was second on uneven bars and third on balance beam. Teammate Jenna Algozine took first on bars (9.55) and was third on floor. Megan Wagenblast was second on floor (9.4) and tied for third on bars.
