Dustin Ketelaar totaled 43 points Saturday, helping Kankakee Valley to a runner-up finish at the Caston Tournament in boys basketball action.
Ketelaar had a team-high 20 in a 56-54 loss to Hagerstown in the championship. He had 23 in a 51-47 overtime win over the hosts in the semifinals.
Lowell lost 54-52 to Hagerstown and 45-42 to Caston to finish fourth.
Chase Braden scored 20 in Morgan Township's 72-35 win over Oregon-Davis. Ryan Klikus added 17, while Bo Anderson had 10. Later in the day, Northfield defeated the Cherokees 56-42.
Rensselaer's Braden Mattocks had a team-high 27 points in a 67-48 win over Oregon-Davis for seventh place. Earlier in the day, Northfield defeated Rensselaer 50-32.
Covenant Christian 66, North Newton 60: Caleb Herrema's 22 points led Covenant Christian past the Spartans. Teammate Chad Hill had 16.
North Newton was led by Wade Scheurich and Juston Grevers with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Pioneer 68, Kouts 49: Carter Skaggs burned the Times No. 9 Mustangs (7-1) for 19 first-quarter points, including five 3-pointers, as the Panthers (6-2) rolled to a 28-9 lead and cruised to the victory. Max Everaert's 21 points topped Kouts. Nick Tyalor scored 10, and Andrew Birky nabbed eight boards.
Girls Basketball
Penn 41, Lake Central 37: Jessica Bell had 17 points and eight rebounds, but the Indians (6-6) fell to Penn (8-3).
Tara Zlotkowski had eight points, three steals and two assists.
Goshen Tournament: Caroline Puntillo scored a total of 40 points as Chesterton placed third.
Puntillo had 21 in a 55-49 double-overtime loss to DeKalb and 19 in a 51-37 win over Tipton. Kelsey Conway scored 11 points for the Trojans (4-6) in the consolation win.
