Kankakee Valley senior Luke Sanderson won Saturday's LaPorte Regional singles title, remaining unbeaten on the season.
Sanderson, now 22-0, defeated Culver Academies' Sam Concannon 6-1, 6-2 for the the title. He advances to Friday's state finals at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis. Play will start at 1 p.m.
Sanderson defeated Fairfield's Austin Christner 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals, while Concannon defeated Wheeler's Jack Hibbard 6-0, 6-2.
Both local entries lost in the semifinals of the doubles tournament. Eventual champions Craig Nofziger and Marcus Arnold of Angola defeated Lowell's Jayson Savich and Ben Roesel 6-3, 6-4. Plymouth's Matt Flynn and Max Holloway defeated Michigan City's Nicholas Serbert and William Harber 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
Porter County Conference Tournament: Maddie Johnson had 12 kills to lead host Washington Township to a 25-9, 25-13, 29-27 championship win over Boone Grove.
It's the first time in school history that both the boys and girls program at Washington have won the PCC tourney titles in the same year and finished the round-robin schedule unbeaten.
Lauren Kleist added 11 kills, while Sammie Higgins had eight block kills.
Nicole Malouhos had six kills and two block kills for the Wolves.
The Senators advanced to the title game with a 25-14, 25-21, 25-13 win over Westville. Johnson had a team-high 11 kills. Kleist and Marissa Brys each added eight kills.
Ashley McClintock had nine kills, nine digs and three block kills for the Blackhawks (19-7). Samantha Albers added five kills and two aces.
The Wolves survived a 15-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 15-2 marathon with Morgan Township to advance. Sky Hall had 14 kills and eight digs to lead Boone, while Malouhos added 10 kills and six block kills.
Penn Tournament: Lake Central (24-8) went 3-1 to win the title. The Indians lost to Southwood 27-25, 25-19, defeated Homestead 25-12, 25-13, beat Northwood 25-14, 25-11 and defeated Penn 18-25, 25-18, 25-8.
In the four matches, Tori Gardenhire paced L.C.'s offense with 23 kills and eight aces. Stephanie Spigolon notched 10 aces, and Dani Ellis led the way defensively with 50 digs.
Boone Grove 35, South Newton 0: Bryce Lang ran all over the Rebels Saturday, rushing 19 times for 229 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wolves (7-2) to their first shutout win of the season.
Boone Grove's defense recorded eight sacks and gave up just 167 yards of total offense.
E.C. Central 27, South Bend Adams 25: Carlos Fernandez’s 28-yard touchdown pass to TreQuan Burnett with 1:37 remaining in the game helped the No. 10 Cardinals (7-2) rally for the win Friday night.
Martayveus Carter helped E.C. Central jump out to an early lead with a 2-yard touchdown run, 68-yard scoring reception from Fernandez and a fumble return all in the first quarter.
