Ana Mendez and Julia Kusiak each scored for Bishop Noll, as the Warriors edged Marquette Catholic 2-1 in Northwest Indiana Soccer Conference action Saturday.

Madeline Wood scored for the Blazers, avoiding the shutout with a goal as the match ended.

Covenant Christian 6, Washington Township 2: Sophia Van Keppel had four goals to lead the Knights over the Senators. Hannah Lins added two goals.

Heather Burton scored both of Washington Township's goals.

Hanover Central 4, Kouts 1: Melissa Balkema, Brooke Sterkowitz, Abby Gasior and Kaylin Fanta scored for the Wildcats in their upset win over the No. 9 Fillies (5-4). Ivy Dawson made 12 saves.

Maranda Birmingham scored the lone goal for Kouts.

Wheeler 5, Boone Grove 0: Emma Heinold scored twice for the No. 7 Bearcats (10-1-1) in the NISC win. Kadie Spoor made five saves to earn the shutout.

West Lafayette 4, Valparaiso 1: Grace Withrow scored the lone goal for the Times No. 4 Vikings, who lost to the Class A No. 10-ranked Red Devils.

 

Boys tennis

Merrillvile Invitational: The host Pirates finished third with 31 points. Nygel Jackson defeated Portage's John Fannin 7-5, 6-2 for the No. 1 singles title.

Lowell placed fourth with 26 points. Lowell's Ben Roesel and Jason Savich defeated Triton's Lucas Shafer and Darin Harrell 7-6 (11-9), 6-2 for the No. 1 doubles title.

The No. 10 Indians and Highland were part of a three-way tie for fifth with 25 points.

 

Boys soccer

Covenant Christian 11, Washington Twp. 1: Justin Dahm had a hat trick and two assists to lead the Knights over the Senators. Tyler Bogaard had two goals and two saves, while Justin Handtke had a goal and three assists.

Kenny Yarber scored Washington Township's lone goal.

Winamac Tournament: Grant Morrow had a goal in the championship and a goal in the semifinal shootout, helping Hebron win the tournament.

The Hawks edged LaVille 2-1 for the title and survived a 5-4 decision on penalty kicks over Rochester to advance.

Richard Botts added the other goal, and Zack Porter made eight saves against the Lancers. Brand Blank scored in regulation against the Zebras. Denis Mijatovic, Justin Deslaries, Nick Surber and Tyler Hill also scored in the PK session.

Kouts 2, Hanover Central 0: Chandler Maglish and Nick Chavez scored goals, while Cody Nelson earned the shutout for the Times No. 8 Mustangs (6-1-2) with six saves.

Patrick Berg made six saves for the Wildcats.

Boone Grove 2, Wheeler 2 (4-3 on penalty kicks): Andrew Ooms and Austin Aguilera each scored in regulation for the No. 4 Wolves (8-2), who outlasted the Bearcats (3-5-1) for a Northwest Indiana Soccer Conference win.

Cameron Foor and Alex Asher scored for Wheeler.

Valparaiso 3, Homestead 1: Thomas Walsh, Bennett Van Schouwen and Jacob Wallace scored for the Times No. 2 Vikings (7-2-1) in their win.

 

Girls volleyball

Spartan Invitational: Portage placed sixth at the 16-team event with a 3-2 mark. Mariah Wright totaled 27 kills and 27 digs and was named to the all-tournament team. Josi Auksel added 23 kills and 14 block kills for the Indians (10-10).

Westville 21-25-25-25, LaVille 25-18-18-17: Ashley McClintock had 13 kills, six digs, five aces and two block kills to lead the Blackhawks (8-3) over the Lancers.
